Why does my Hitachi TV keep turning itself off?

I have a pretty old Hitachi CLE-921A which when powered on (via remote or TV itself) often immediately turns itself off.....then back on.....then back off. This goes on for about 5 mins before the picture actually stays on. On occasions, the TV will even turn off after about 30mins of watching something.
Very frustrating when you are running late on a programme you really want to watch!
Any ideas???

Sounds like it could be a bad solder joint on the circuit board and may find it varies depending on room temp or length of time switched on as it warms up until it is disturbed.
Not recommended to use the set in this condition or other problems will arise and will be more expensive.
