What is the best way to cover over holes in a plasterboard wall?

I have taken down shelves etc and I have pushed the rawlplugs that were in the wall into the cavity behind the plasterboard

How can I cover over the hole properly. Any attempts I make are rubbish

I have tried all sorts of fillers and nothing gives the finish that a professional manages to get

Any ideas

Put a larger rawl plug (or a dowel) in the hole and push it into the plaster board so it is sunk into the wall, but not right through into the cavity. then fill with a little plaster use a wet knife to finish.
