how can i recode my diesel escort van key?

i have a "P" reg 1.8 d escort van and when i got a new key (black with red chip on it) this is how i programmed it ..put RED original master key in ignition and turned to on,when light (near clock) goes on remove key... after this light will go on again for short period when light goes out you have 10 secs to put other key in and turn ignition on,then light should go on again to show succesful programming..................ps these TIBBE keys wear out quick ..they wont let you unlock... door locks or back door lock most times and you think the locks are faulty.. but 9 times outta 10 is the key thats wornout ,i have got 6 keys now..and 4 will not unlock any locks...and will only fit ignition
