I have no display through HDMI port?

I had a new Sky HD box installed. The engineer couldn't get a picture through HDMI although the TV was fine with my Xbox and HD DVD player. Since he installed the Sky box and plugging in wires with all equipment turned on, I can no longer receive a signal from ANY HDMI device. Sky are denying liability for damaging my TV which was fine before their engineer messed about. Q1, Can you verify that a TV can be damaged by inserting and re-inserting cables while all equipment is on. Q2, Can the TV be repaired? Its a 42" full HD model. BTW, the engineer left my house stating that I need to install the box correctly myself as he didn't know what was wrong. Good service huh?

Thanks for the reply. There are no user settings on my TV re HDMI. I know some TV's you can "reset" the HDMI but mines can't. I have since heard that the HDMI can be shorted out when plugging in some devices with the power on. It seems this has happened to me so I furnished Sky with this info and now they are pushing the installer (a sub-contractor) to sort it out. We'll see.......

The way to deal with this is to stay off the technical stuff. Write to Sky and say that before their engineer called your TV was working perfectly and that after the visit it was not. Therefore you are holding them entirely responsible for the damage. You may want to point out that the fact that the engineer could not get the Sky box to work properly (which was the reason that he/she was there), whereas other boxes were working happily, may say something about his/her competence. Tell them that you give them 28 days to fix it or you will call a third party in to fix it and bill them.

BTW (DO NOT tell Sky this.) I suspect that the engineer [sic] has just screwed up your TV's settings.
