'05 Nissan X-Trail 2.2 diesel SVE ?

I'm suffering loss of power at about 2000 rpm which feels like fuel starvation but on a long run the problem clears up. I've used an injector cleaner which helped for a short while but the problem has returned so I'm looking at cleaning/replacing the fuel filter. Any other suggestions?

I have just cured my lack of power problem! If you suffer from the 6-8 second delay in accelerating when trying to pass or accelerate, it will be your MAF that needs cleaning. (The MAF sensor controls the EGR valve). Take it off, carefully remove the sensor from the tube and literally 'wash it' with MAF cleaner or any non lube switch cleaner. Replace the whole thing and drive it through 5 cycles of start and stop....the ECU needs to re-learn the readings from the MAF before it will start running right again. Try it, for a few quid and half hours work, it's cheaper than taking it to a garage! I could not believe the difference it made to mine.

Mine is a 2003 2.2 dci, with hesitant running at low revs in all gears,
initially cleaned air induction tubing and air mass sensor in duct from air cleaner, some improvement for two weeks, replaced air mass sensor with new item, fault still apparent,
If accelerator is depressed gently, revs dont rise gradually, but appear to jump at certain accelerator positions, this is done with vehicle at rest and the same occurs when driving, options are,
1, accellerator pedal assembly (electronics)
2, wiring loom failure, less likely
and 3, diesel pump low pressure valve assembly.
I am hoping for 1, as this is the cheapest fix at anything from £90.00 up to replace.
ESR manual suggests voltages can be recorded via OBD for pedal assembly which should identify the fault, although no fault codes have appeared.

hey.

commenting from Finland, just bought a 2005 2.2 diesel from germany. i found today, that my car is doing it too. not every time, but sometimes. when I start accelerating, i get to 2000rpm and not too much over at any gear. haven't seen the smoke though. a total lack of power. Restarting the engine fixes it and it normally appears after a few km driving.

somehow the problem is very similar to the situation, when you have a false power chip in the engine.. so might be somewhere from ecu to injectors ? hope to find mine soon.

Finally turns out it was the throttle position sensor. Well done JHG garage, better luck next time Nissan

Hi, I have a 03 X trail 2.2 diesel sport and looks as though this is common.Nissan garage seem reluctant to get their hands dirty, charging me £250 for a splosh of cleaner & new filter. Cures problem for a few days and then problem returns, ie, feels like its missing at constant 40mph+. Recent loads of white smoke and over revving when changing gear (approx 1800 rpm) Does this sound like EGR valve??? Also mpg is dropping slightly. Car has now done 97000.

its your airflow meter...nissan are liable to recall all cars

the best solution is to have your injector pump replaced. most of the time loss of power is attributed to suction control valve.

i have an x trail sport and had the same problems,i had lots of smoke and loss of power,i had the rac man around and he was brilliant,we were 300 miles from home and the car wouldnt even go up a slight hill,he
tried tapping the egr valve to release it ,as he said was stuck open, but this didnt work so he took off the adjoining metal pipe, and slid in a piece of a lid from a baked bean tin to actually close off the unit as a temp fix to get us home, this worked and the car goes better than it ever did, also this is a sure test to prove if your egr valve has stuck open,no more smoke and lots of power.10 out of ten and a twenty quid tip for the Rac man, made him smile for making us smile too.

I have an 03 X Trail sport, had the same problem, just spent an hour under the bonnet.Remove the top off the EGR valve (four posidrive screws on the top)be careful not to loose the gasket/schim,unplug the sensor lead and carefully remove the top.Inside you will find the valve(looks like a thermostat) and if you look in the top you will find another spring loaded 'piston'this is the EGR sensor that tells the ECU what position the valve is in, with two claws that locate on the valve below.I used some spray brake cleaner then compressed air to clean up the components then WD40 sprayed lightly into the base, this freed up the valve,a last blast of air removed any excess oil then reassembled. This stoppped the hesitation when accelerating and the uneven running, when cruising at an even speed or erratic idling. Going to add some injector cleaner tomorrow to the tank as an additional measure also.Hope this helps!!!!

i've been having exactly the same problem and three different mechanics suggested different resolutions, there appears to be a manufacturaing prob if u ask me

I'm having the same issue with mine. Exactly.
Had a mechanic come to look at it.
Took it away and said they cleaned the injectors, worked fine for 6 weeks then the problem came back.

Have you sorted yours?
