Under the various Sale of Goods Acts you do not need s receipt. As Proof of Purchase, when you bought the TV the Argos branch will have got you to fill in a form that is REQUIRED BY LAW. They have to keep a copy of that go to the Branch where you bought the set and see the Manager. Demand to see the form as Proof of Purchase. If they demure in any way threaten them with the Small Claims Court. That is usually enough to get a refund.

unfortunately i have lost the receipt and instrucitions manual. when i email argos they cannot help me.

If that is the case then take it back to Argos (Mikomi is an Argos Own Brand) for a refund as it is not Fit for Purpose.

thanks. the aerial works on other tvs in my house. not sure what to do about it

It depends on where you live (in relation to the local TV transmitter) and how sensitive the receiver is.
