Sanivite 3?

My Sanivite 3 pumps when the chamber is not full. It is only used to serve a sink and wasking machine. The Unit will pump every few minutes even though no water is flowing into the unit.

Any ideas

Definitely the non return valve....common fault on older units...

The lid can be removed, but only slowly and you must do it carefully, without excessive force on the plastic parts. Make sure it's disconnected from the electrical outlet and the water pipes. Firstly, the outlet pipe is a stub pipe fitted through the lid into a rubber pipe inside the unit. Look at it and memorize how it looks, before removing it. It should be removed by gently twisting and pulling. To me, the removal and replacement of the outlet stub pipe is the tricky part. Next, pull the lid sides outwards to release the slots from the body. You may need to use a large bladed screwdriver to gently prize the lid upwards, using those slots. The rubber seal under the lid offers some resistance to the lid coming up. So be patient and do it slowly and evenly. The screws on the side of the box holds the motor assembly in place. These do not attach to the lid, so no need to undo them before lifting the lid. I found re-assembly was easier by wetting the rubber seals with water. That stub pipe was hard to replace, even wet. But silcone grease is probably recommneded and would make it easier to re-assemble. I would double check everything is watertight before putting it into service. My pump ran for seven years with a domestic washing machine before it failed. Taking it apart and cleaning it didn't help as it seems to be an electrical failure. I saw from the internet that the motor starter choke was a weak point, causing the motor to hum instead of running.

Having serviced many Saniflo products over the years including the Sanivite 3 I would say that the non-return flap valve fitted to the top of the outlet pipe is not fit for purpose. I always add a McAlpine in-line 1 ½ inch non-return valve close to the unit. They do not allow any back flow and are much easier to service.
It is a surprising fault on an otherwise excellent product.

How did you take the unit apart to clean it... the saniflo website says there are no serviceable parts and you should call an engineer. I tried to the the lid off but it seem stuck on pretty tight.... I undid the catches etc... Am I missing something. cb

I had the same problem. The cause was the non return valve in the outlet pipe had broken. Ordered a new one from Saniflo which arrived the next day and cost 14.52p. Easily fitted.

I have just taken my unit apart as it was pumping all the time - apart from the fact it was generally clogged up I have also discovered the non return valve on the discharge elbow is perished and not working - I wonder if your non return valve is faulty and allowing water to run back (slowly) into your unit, and then being pumped again, only to run back ... and so on.

My unit pumps vertically about 6 feet, so there is always some water in the vertical pipe which runs back.

I hope I can get a spare - will ring saniflo tomorrow on 0208 842 0033.

it's quite easy to take off the elbow and chech the non return valve
