Kenwood steam iron won't come on?

My Kenwood steam iron won't come one. I checked that power is getting to the terminals, and there is continuity at the element terminals meaning that it hasn't broken, but the iron cannot still come on. I'm thinking that the problem could now be with the indicator LED. If that is so, can i short it out and continue to work normally?
