There is a solenoid valve on the side of the hot water chamber that sticks open when it gets clogged up. We live in a soft water area however this doesn't stop it from sticking. I have managed to 'repair' it a couple of times by opening it up and tapping the side of the valve whilst operating the switch. The only *real* answer is to replace the solenoid valve. *****I don't recommend you do what I did if you don't know what you are doing.....there's lots of electricity and hot stuff inside the case!*********

Oh dear! My Stirella Simac spits HOT water out through the steam button and trips the electrics in the house. I was hoping to get it repaired but after reading all of your comments, it's not looking too hopeful!!

I have had a Stirella iron for 4 years from John Lewis, the stram button is not on all of the time. Phone John Lewis, they are not interested. I personally think John Lewis are going down hill!

Hi My iron too has continuous steam I have always put up with it from date of purchase as this is the 2nd one and John Lewis gave me so much grief changing the first one. I now have a problem the steam button will not go on. Does anyone know where I can have this repaired. The iron is 2years old only and cared for.

Because it ceased to steam, I had to return my first Stirella Steam Iron to John Lewis, who reluctantly replaced it with a new Iron. Today (six months out of warranty) I have just scalded my hand on continuous hot steam! All comments have been enlightening. I am about to contact John Lewis, and like all the contributors here do not intend to buy another Stirella.

machine is rubbish. When it works it is brilliant, but it broke down. John Lewis did repair it as a gesture of goodwill, but now it has broken down once again. The machine cost £180 and I expect to have to throw it away after two years.

Our iron is doing the same thing. Unfortunately it's out of warranty so John Lewis don't care. The manufacturers will fix it for £70, but it's cheaper to buy another iron.
My recommendation is do not buy a Stirella steam iron!

I had exactly the same problem on my stirella, luckily it was still under warranty. I sent it back for repair via John Lewis. Seemingly it was one of the internal valves that had got stuck open. Sorry cannot help any more than that
