Crack Repair to Belly of Forea Alexandrea 4/4 Violin?

My son's violin has two cracks that run perpendicular to the bridge and are just to the outside of each bridge foot. It's as if someone tightened the strings too much or there was an impact to the bridge forcing it inward. One crack can be felt but is not very visible. The other is visible, about 2" long and runs to the end of the "f" hole close to the neck. There is no gap, the two sides continue to touch.

This was not an expensive violin, at about $350. After talking to a local violin repair, I was told that it would cost more to repair than it's worth. I guess I'm really asking for a second opinion.

I'm also thinking about repairing it myself by forcing some water soluble glue into the crack to repair the top. Then add some thin wood pads to the bottom of the feet to extend past the crack and relieve some of the pressure on this week point.

After all if it is already broken, I can't really break it more. :)
