how can i repair my citroen zara picasso heater fan?

the heater fan works intermittently. it mostly comes back on when the car is restarted and sometimes if the fan knob is turned. I lose yhe whole heating and air con when this happens. Is it likely to require a new part or is it a loose connection? 1.9hdi 2003 citroen zara picasso.

I have been working on mine all day , if you meter the red wire going on to fuse box top left should 12 - 14v . Fuse box is located right hand side of steering wheel , if there is 12v move to fan located behind glove box right side , twist to right to remove and test with 12v if ok move to thermal fuse which is located in the tunnel behind fan twist to remove replace fuse . Mine was no power from ignition on red wire so I fitted a fused relay which worked fine £8.99 . If you're green light for aircon is on it won't be ignition wiring

I did exact same as Mick - cut the red wire and insulated the end coming from the ignition (just in case it decided to "go live" again) and spliced the end of the red wire (the part going into the fuse box) into the nearby yellow wire. Job done.

My 2003 xsara picasso heating and air con just stoped working. reading the other coments would this be the same case that it could be the ignition switch.

it is youre ignition switch not youre barrel seperat part easy fix you will find that you have no power to youre 40 amp fuse fuse not blown lol now get a piece of wire and put 1 end in the right contact of the 40amp ac blower fuse and then put the other end in a power source that comes off the ignition then hey blower it works lol

02 Picasso. The fan would not work on any setting nor the air-con. At first I tried replacing the heating resistor (difficult) but still no joy. After completely dismantling the dashboard (nightmare) eventually traced the problem to a loose connection at the ignition. Try taking off the steering column cowling and joggling a few wires first - could save time an money!

My fan only works on full speed.
On the facia panel the 4 speed knob only has contacts inside. All the circuits (a/c, heated rear window and bulbs go onto a connector which dissapears down beside theclutch pedal and probably goes to the fan motor and a pack of 4 resistors.
If you take the radio out there is the connector block just inside on the left up behind the panel, its worth a wiggle.

Anorack man.

Hi, I had the same fault on my 02 picasso, no fan at all. After reading similar forums, i checked the voltages of the wires in and out of the ignition barrel. The red wire was live into the ignition, dead leaving it ...all the others we live. I spliced the red and yellow wires together and the aircon, fan etc all works fine. Dont know yet if this will lead to further faults in the future or failure of a fuse etc

I had a similar problem on my 02 xsara picasso which eventually lead to complete failure of the a/c and heater systems (no a/c panel lights, no heat, no fan). This was tracked down to a faulty ignition switch which was replaced by a citroen dealer for about £200 (yikes!). As your problem is intermittent it may be a loose connection on the switch.
