Just started my car the other day and the speedo started to rise as soon as the car was reversing, claiming that I was doing 130mph! As soon as I went forward it increased again to the limitis of the meter, before falling and staying at a regular 25mph - regardless of the speed I was doing.
I am driving an M reg Fiat Punto 55.S with a 1.1 engine. I'm not sure whether this would indicate a fault in the speedo itself or whether I will need a new cable. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
I am also using my Navman to tell me my speed, I have had my fiat punto 2 years and dont have enough hours to tell you all the faults. as for the speedo, check the cable is plugged in properly and failing that you can get a new speedo from a breakers yard for about £30, Ive taken mine out to check how its connected and its so easy, just plugs in!!
