Don't listen to "adam bike doctor" this is not the right way to time an elyseo engine. If you take the rocker cover off you will see a small rubber cap on the cam jornal, remove it and there is a 6mm hole, insert a drill bit or similar into this hole and rotate cam until it locks, thats your cam in the correct position.
Now it's been some time since i timed one of these engine so bear with me, there is a hole in the crankshaft, 6mm iirc cant remember the exact position but you'll find it under the right hand engine cover, do the same with this 1 (insert drill bit or similar rotate crankshaft until it locks )thats your crankshaft in the correct position. Now put your timing chain and tentioner on and tighten every thinng up and then take the drill bits or what ever you used out and put the rubber caps back on, then turn the engine a few times by hand to make sure the valves dont touch the piston, THAT is how you set the timing on an elyseo.

to add to the fun i just remebered there is no key or key way to keep the cam sprocket in the right place on the cam shaft its a case of do it up tight with some loctite and keep your fingers crossed ! frigging frog machines

ahh they dont have any, seriously there are none i have rebuilt one before and i made my own up.firstly turn the engine over with the cam out and get it on top dead centre use a small scredriver in the plug hole to determine the top dead centre of the piston just turn the engine over very slowly with the crankshaft until the piston is at its highest point not just before or just after and then get a centre punce and make a mark on the crancase and then one on the magneto that is exactly lined up with it ,then put it on b dead centre bascially turn the crank 90 degrees.then put the cam back in and make sure the cam lobes are pointing away from the cam followers that should be so the cam lobes are equally pointing downwards and outwards slightly at 45 degrees to each other, this is the postiton the cam should be at when the piston is at tdc so .make a mark again on the cam end or cam sprocket and make another mark on the head that it lines up with then get it so the crank is at tdc with the marks u made and the cam is in the correct place with the marks you made fit the cam chain and the cam chain tensioner and then check it to ake sure the marks are both still in the right place(near enough) and then turn the engine over by hand and it should be ok if it jams then you have some something wrong re check and try again f it seems ok then put you finger over the spark plug hole and turn the engine over fast and see if it blows your finger off if it does then fit you plug and it should run !!!
