It means it has had to keep on topping up the water level. You are losing water. During the initial short period when the bowl rotates & the water recirculates back up in to the bowl, check the drain hose. There should be no water escaping in to the drain. If there is then you have a problem with the divertor valve down by the drain pump. May be stuck half way.
