i have one!!! new aswell! eay way to tell if you starter is goosed is to find the 4 prong yellow relay which is always behind the battery, take out relay, split pin between the 2 thick red wires and hey presto, if your bike starts its the relay and if not its the starter, i fit shed loads of these in work, you can actually fix them by replacing the brushes inside, they are the same as cars you just have to file them down to the right size, piece of pi** interested in starter, ebay user martd01 contact me there

i connected the wire but nothing happened. i also connected a multimeter to the positive terminal of the battery and the other lead to the rubber cased positive lead that goes into the starter motor. when i pressed the electric ignition the multimeter went up. so a few points:

1) does this mean power is getting to the starter motor?

2) does this also mean its the starter motor thats knackered because power is getting to it but not doing anything?

3) if it is, how much is a new one likly to cost me?

thanks for all the help given :D

ok sorry gary i must have missed the reply, what i would do is this, make sure the battery is charged up and good, get a long enough bit of thick wire to run from the battery to the starter motor ,clamp one end of the wire under the live red terminal of the battery and then pull the rubber cover off the live terminal on the starter motor and push the other end of the wire you put on the battery to this starter motor terminal and see if the starter motor spins around.if it doesnt then the starter motor is in need of replacing or rebuilding, the brushes may be worn of the brush springs may be weak or the armature may even be burnt out or have a broken wire.if it does spin over then follow the wire from the live terminal on the motor to the relay and put the live wire from the battery to that and see if it spins over.tell me what you find.ok good luck.
