Hi Dan, Last summer I bought a used eager beaver 282 that ran poorly. I recently bought a new spark-plug at Canadian Tire, spark-plug: Champion RDJ8J If you give the guy in automotive dept. there inventory stock # 18-3026 they can find it easily. The proper gap is .025 inches, or 25 thousands of an inch. 40:1 gas mix ratio. As for screw settings it took me approx. 25 minutes to adjust. There are 3 screws to adjust, the large one is for trigger cable adjust, mine has a little bit of slack. The 2 smaller ones next to each other is idle and the other is gas flow. My idle is more screwed down than is the gas flow screw. It takes a bit of tinkering to get just right. I found that once I had it idling nicely, I backed out the idle screw (left screw closest to engine) say half to 1 turn, then adjust the gas flow screw to the point that it would no longer bog down when opening up the throttle.
Hope this helps,
Rick D.
