that model number sounds similar to my own and I replaced a thermostat about a year ago. I too was a complete novice. I ended up taking the whole thing apart to find the thermostat, but it's located at the back and if i remember rightly you might have to prize a metal section off (the screws come ff, but it may be pretty much welded on due to the heat) to get at the thermostats. just replace what you see and try and make sure you're replacing like for like. No soldering or special equipment needed
