Lexmark X5470 Carriage Problem?

The printer displays a carriage problem. When you press the OK button, the carriage with its print cartridges shifts at great speed to the left and then to the right of the printer slamming hard at each end. Can this be repaired? What is needed i.e. in terms of spare parts to carry out the fix?

sorry bob has had such difficulties with the x5470. i have my 2nd one (after 4 years or so the first one developed communication problems, i think - my memory (personal) is failing - and love it. i use it regularly every day in my home business, and it is much better than the other 3 or 4 brands i've used in past years. this printer has changed my life for the better. it is an easy, fast set up, has great quality for regular printing and photos and handles envelopes well - envelope printing was a problem with every other printer i've ever had. by the way, i have no financial interest in the success of lexmark - not an employee or stockholder, i just like this machine more than i can say. oh, yes, the single deficiency is that like other brands, the ink is overpriced.

I was wondering if you owned a boat??? The Lexmark X5470 would make a great anchor but it's not much good for anything else.

As a computer technician for 23 years I've seen some sorry printers in my time, but this model Lexmark beats tham all. The biggest problem is that it will not feed paper after a short time of use. Cleaning the feed rollers with alcohol or carburetor cleaner only works for a few feeds and then the same problem arises.

I suppose it's good for home use if you don't do much printing. The scanner is adequate, the fax works well, but as a printer it doesn't make the grade no matter how inexpensive it is.

Your carriage problem sounds as if you may have moved the cartridge holder to one side or the other when you were changing ink cartridges. That would put the alignment out of whack and cause it to do a number of noisy things. Try centering the cartridge holder manually when in the ink change mode.
