my dual flush toilet sometimes keeps overflowing into the bowl?

I have a dual flush cistern that sometimes, as the cistern is refilling overflows and streams down the side of the pan. There are no markings on the unit but the internal plastic parts are turquoise and white, flushing the unit again normally stops the overflow

I turned the valve on the side of the water inlet pipe underneath the toilet so the cistern stopped filling, as it happened late at night

the problem is not with the Flushing unit but with the float valve. You might find that if you take it out carefully, and descale it that it will work again. If it is a "quiet" unit, then it will have a complicated air-block system, which although clever and quiet is probably impossible to repair once it has started giving problems. I suggest replacing it. Homebase do replacement float valves for both rear fill and side fill cisterns. Make sure you work out what you need. They cost about £10.50. I replaced mine yesterday and it works perfectly.

There has to be some sort of adjustment either at the valve end of the arm if float and arm type or a long rod at the side of a cup type filling device that rides up a ratchet arm then stops at where the rod adjustment is set [that's the type I've got]. Sorry can't be of any more help.
