Could this be lb ?this is low battery. If you change the battery do NOT turn off the mains power as you will clear all settings and will need a total re-programme

Hi,

My 9800 shows a fault code which I am not sure how to read it. It could be rb or r6. Does anyone knows what this means?

It happened while I inserted my usual 4-digit no. incorrect without pushing A bottom nor closing the door. Then I insert the right 4-digit no. But before pressing the A botton the alarm start alarming so high and I pressed the clear botton many times so the alarm went off but now it shows me this fault code.
Anyone can help please?

Thanks for the advice - my 9800 alarm of 14 years suddenly began an internal alarm 5 days ago, flashing 6f which I understand now is bf, and will seek advice re replacing battery in main control panel. Now realise the kitchen fitters built over the control panel and units need to be removed before accessing the panel!
Thanks for all the useful advice on your wall.

i prefere the new keypad as apart from looking good, there is no door to drop off,as they had a habit of doing on the first 9800.still a very good panel though, regards, charles m,GTS

if you look on the back page of user manual,it gives you all the fault codes, but if you dont have book, here they are;ap.aux power failure,bf.battery fault,c1to c8,zone violation,cc(you will only see this if your alarm is monitored)means communication successful,cf.comms failure,e1,to e8.entry via zone circuit.ea,entry alarm,ef exit alarm, both these mean you took to long to go out or come in.lb,low battery,lf,telephone line failure,(as in monitored)lt,end station tamper, lid off or back switch tripped,(panel off the wall)01 to 08 zone omitted,pf mains failure,r1 to r4 remote keypad tamper,rp,keypad missing,rr,installer reset required,rt,excess keypad key presses,s1 t0 s8,engineer soak test,sr,system reset,(total power failure)t1,to t8 zone tamper,tr,tamper return fault(bell box)a lot of people confuse the battery code bf as 6 f,so,look closely,i am a proffesional installer and have fitted over a thousand of the 9800,plus the 9800+they are very reliable panels, you can use the 9800+keypad on the 9800 if you have a faulty keypad,as older unit obsolete.hope this is of help to anyone,

6F or bf I would suspect is a battery fault.

I've now replaced my 9800 with a 9752. Nothing wrong with it, just fancied some extra zones and a prox keyfob.

r1-r4 are keypad tampers.

Whether you can reset these will depend upon a programmable setting. I still have the install guide as a pdf that I downloaded from the web if anyone is interested.

I can be contacted at ( schallis AT ford DOT com ) if you wish a copy. Replace upper case letters as necessary.

6f on a 9800 scantronic panel means there is a tamper on zone 6, first check cover on zone, if ok could be cable damage, may require an engineer.

In addition to the last post you can reset a user code if you already have an existing one quite easily.

Key in your code,
The display will show --
press button 4
The diplay will show OC
Key in old code
The display will show NC
Key in new code

Job done.

If you do not have the engineers code then you can reset the EEprom to default by doing the following...

Open up the panel, switch off the power and disconnect the battery. The external bells may go off at this point if they are SAB types. Unplug the 8 pin EEprom chip and re apply mains power.

With the panel still powered up, plug the EEprom back into the board. (Correct way round!) and the panel will write default values to it.

Re connect the battery and enter 07890 into the key pad. Then 99 to exit the engineers mode. You will now need to reset ALL the zone and timing parameters so only do this if you know what you had before. The default user codes will now be 1111 2222 3333 4444 or is it aaaa bbbb cccc dddd (can't remenber exactly)

Incidentally for anyone who is interested...

To get into engineering mode:-

Key in engineering code 0 7890 is default
The remote panels will now beep every 2 seconds
Open the box lid and the panel will enter engineering mode

program your settings as required

to exit engineering mode, replace box lid and key 99 on the remote keypad.

I do not fix alarms as a profession, I just have one of these panels in my house and have had a good play with it... I do have a photocopy of the engineering installation manual that I can reference if necessary.

does anyone know where i can get an engineer code for a scantronic 9800 alarm???

The error code rt means an illegal use of key pad , ie excessive key presses have been made. You will need engineer code to fix this.

Pete

Hi Pete,

The keypad is now showing an rt code and flashing!?
should the battery replacement rectify that?

thanks

matt
July 2007
Hello Matt.... the code Bf is control panel battery fault, you need to replace asap.

Get the manual for your system here :-
http://alarmhelp.net/ScantronicDownload.html

you will need acrobat reader to open the file.
