the rear washer jet seems to be missing on my car and the water goes into the car instead of onto the rear windscreen

I used a 12mm rubber gromet from Halfords for each link and they still work 2 years later. Just push one on and up, underneath each link so it encases the downward nipple, and perhaps add another to support, if it will squeeze onto the end. They cost me a whole 50p! This really works.

get a plastic screw top of a milk carton, drill a hole in the middle small enough for it to just pop over the ball-end, stick in place with a load of araldite but not so that it will interfere with the mechanism movement when dry.
A get-me-home bodge til I got round to buying the wipex kit has now lasted over 6 months of snow and rain.

Use 3 cable ties per wiper.
1: Make a cable tie loop (2cm diameter) through the hole in the wiper arm.
2: Then make a loose cable tie loop around the thin bit of the motor arm (just before it starts to flare out at the end).
3: Loop the third cable tie between the two other cable tie loops, and then tighten the loop made in step 2.

This holds the motor arm up against the wiper arm.

Note: don't over tighten the cable tie 3 because the arm movement is not linear, and the cable tie will snap.

if its just that the two connecting arms have dettached themselves from one another (so the second wiper isnt working) 30 seconds, an elastic band to hold them together again and some common sense fixes it nicely! sod the £100 replacement and the labour costs and perfect result for a skint student! will keep more bands handy though for when this one gives up!

I used the strongest glue i could find, and stuck 1p coins to the bottom of the rods! Works fine!

Spray the "ball" with WD40 and re-assemble. Worked for me and so far has lasted 3 months!

I unfortunately had the same problem. The plastic bush on the link arm on the drivers side had worn and subsequently kept falling off the ball on the bottom of the shaft. I fortunately work in a place with an engineering machine shop so just simply stripped the shaft out, got one of the millers to drill and tap a little M4 hole in the bottom of the shaft and put it back together with a washer bolted into the bottom that was large enough for the link arm to no longer fall off. Don't know how long it will last but it should be a secure fix for a long time to come. Just remember to grease the plastic washer up on the link arm to stop it from drying out and sticking. Hope this helps anyone withe same problem.

As I temp repair to the linkeage on my punto I used the "rubber bung" method of repair. The rubber bung was one that had been attached to my washing machine drum when it was delivered to stop it moving in transit. It was as easy as removing the screw and pushing the rubber over the end of the linkeage attachment which stopped the linkeage slipping off. This has proved sucessfull for a temp period, which is now in to its 2nd year. Total time of repair 30 seconds.

This is a common problem caused by lack of lubrication wearing out a plastic bush, it can be fixed easily if you are up to a bit of simple DIY. You will need a vice, centre punch + hammer, small drill bit + drill, washers and a split pin.

Use a centre punch to mark the spindle in the flat area just beyond the ball joint (you will understand when you have the wiper assembly off the car). You must punch the spindle to start the drill off, otherwise the bit will skip about as the spindle is hardened steel.

Using a sharp drill bit, drill a small hole just larger than the split pin right across the spindle (I used a 2mm diameter drill). Allow enough space for fitting a washer behind the split pin.

Clean off swarf, re-fit the wiper mechanism arm back onto the ball joint, fit a washer and split pin and gease the joint well. Job done!

The job takes no longer than 20 minutes per joint.

you can do a running repair with cable ties to hold them on as i did, just hold the two parts together & tie them. but it is a common problem with all 99-04 models, along with umpteen other things.

You can't replace just the linkage,; you have to replace the entire wiper motor/linkage assembly which costs £114 from a Fiat dealer. You should find one cheaper (new or s/hand) on Ebay.

Also there is a plastic clip at either end of the scuttle panel once you've undone the 3 screws - be careful not to break them! After that it's pretty easy.

you have to remove both wiper arms they are held on by 13mm nuts, next remove the scuttle panel below the windscreen this is held on by 3 screws, this reveals the the wiper linkage on the drivers side. remove the black plastic cover on top the motor and unplug it. remove the 3 10mm bolts in the linkage and remove it
