How can I unlock my SanDisk Memory Card?

I bought a SanDisk Memory card online and the little slider to lock fell off when I opened the memory card package. When I put it into my camera HP Photosmart R818, the camera said it was locked. Since I cannot find the little piece that fell off, is there a way I can unlock it myself so that I can use it to store pictures?

omg!!!!!!!!!!!! tape actually works!!!! im so impressed!!!!!!!!!!!!! i was sceptical and reluctant at first but thought id give it a go and tape really works!!!!!!!!!!!!

there is a lock slider on the side of the memory card and it has this symbol above it
< Lock >
move the white slider to the arrow pointing left ,

if the white bit has fallen off then put tape in the little gap , this also works

I put a small piece of tape over the hole where the little slidey piece used to be an WHALA!!! It no longer says my card is locked! GOOD LUCK! I came here searching for the right answer as well, mine broke off just as you described!

ok i want to know if there is any other way that i can view my pictures without using my camera although my sand disk is locked i tried putting it in my pc but there is nothing i wonder if i put it back on my camera and plug in the usb cord if it will work????????????????

hey guys!....ok i was kinda dumb becuz i put this 4Gb psp memory card into ma camera and then it got stuck...i started tugging on it...and it came out...but when i put the cameras SD memory card its showing its locked, i also tried movieng the small white thingie...but still not working...some1 PLZZZ HELP!!!!!! my parents r gonna kill me!!!!

Thanks to this site I was able to unlock my scandisk card by sliding the little gizmo. So easy when you know.

The tape thing does not work, I can't believe I tried that, then again I have more than 1000 pics on my memory card, and haven't downloaded them all. My slider/lock thing fell of after my lil bro threw it down and now the camera says its locked and i don't have a clue how to unlock it without the slider. Is this possible?

THANK GOD FOR U MELISSA. THIS IS MY SECOND SANDISK. I THREW THE OTHER ONE AWAY BECAUSE IT WAS LOCKED. I TRIED EVERTHIN FROM HOLDING BUTTONS DOWN ON THE CAMERA TO GOIN INTO MY SETTINGS TO UNLOCK IT. MESSING WITH THE CAMERA I ENDED UP DELETING MY PICTURES I WAS SO ANGRY. THIS TIME I SAID MAYBE THEY HAVE AN ANSWER ONLINE. WAHALA.

wat u have to do is open it(slowly)
then look on the silder part, under it is 4 silver dot 2 and 2
now u need to get a foil paper and place it on the 2 top dot
(the 2 dot where is the sdcard reader)
then cloes it and tape it

Ok, the switch on the side I have moved 10 times and still nothing. I have so many pictures on there, I need them. any other suggestions?

if your camera says your card is locked and the slide is in the unlocked position, it may be that the card is all right but that your camera is too old to accept sd-hc cards. i found this out by testing the card in my computer where it functioned perfectly. i know, i know, you don't want to buy a new camera. if you bought the card from amazon they will give a refund. or keep them for data storage and buy a plain 2 gb card for your camera.

look at your memory card. by the word Scan you will see the word lock and a little notch. push it up and it will unlock the memory card!

How can I unlock my SanDisk Memory Card?

I bought a SanDisk 12mb Memory card and the little slider to lock fell off and my son lost it. when I opened the memory card package to see what i can do, nothing. When I put it into my computer the it says safty remove sd device- drive(f) on mt camera said it says locked I cannot find the little piece in my camara is there a way I can unlock it myself so that I can use it to store pictures?

Hi, I had the same problem, I thought it may be like the old 5/14" disks where you just put a label over the marker, but they are not. in the end I bought a broken one on ebay and took the bit from that. It worked fine afterwards.
