how do i time my 12 hp briggs&straton lawn mower?

mower gets gas and has spark. i was told it needs timed.

The ignition timing is fixed - assuming the flywhel key is OK, it can't be wrong.

The valve timing must be correct unless the engine has been completely rebult.
