I have a 15 year old Service washing machine (1000 Easywash) which had the same problem. It seemed to try to turn the drum on the final spin (when switched off and on again) but no more; sometimes better with a smaller load; had to move dial to pump out position to empty water to unlock door and take out sodden washing and try with half load, which sometimes worked. Was going to replace motor brushes, but tried spraying into the controller dial with electrical switch cleaner (from Maplins, as it happens) and turning the dial a few times (all with the power off). Has worked fine ever since, so I wonder if it was the contacts that were dirty (I guess they get a bit of electrical contact damage). I now leave the dial in a different position than the one it stops at after a wash, in case staying on that contact makes a difference to wear. I am not an expert so offer no suggestions, just an account of what I did.
