I personally think that all other advice is aimed at a reason for us to be sucked into buying things that don't sort the original prob, notice that even when I go to certain websites or if there is anything to powerful for PC to manage the power consumption.

I too thought it was the FAN, CPU or Motherboard not working at all or some computer settings.

However up until I visited a junkyard for PC's (yes there is one of these, even in the United Kingdom) and so I grabbed loads of PC's that no one wanted anymore, and like a mad scientist I ripped the guts out of my original and remade it into a hybrid monster mofo frankenstein PC, with my own add-on's which is running as faster as Usain Bolt's feet, is more powerful then over 1,000 Tesla H-Bombs put together and cooler then a Siberian Cossacks underpants.

I am finally able to do things in a fraction of a second

And if anyone wants the specs and the parts, please feel free to mail me at my email address listed below

Well My computer keeps turning off as well and I think Its cause its been sucking up all this dust on the side of it and it wore out the battery so try and not put on the carpet or bed etc to much or it wears out the battery to much and it over heats

It is not advisable to vacuum inside computers unless you have a special anti-static vacuum for the purpose.
Using a conventional vacuum - you could potentially fry components through electro static discharge.

I discovered the reason my PC kept turning itself of was leaking capacitors. Check your capacitors. They look like small batteries on the the motherboard. If they're swollen or have a brown gunk on the top then your motherboard has gone and you should replace it.

Don't vacuum your pc, as static may damage the motherboard. Buy a can of compressed air instead and blast the insides!
Remember to touch the metal casing when working on the internals to ground yourself and remove any static on you.
If you have a virus or worm, do a system restore to the point before you had the problem. That shuld sort it out, then make sure your anti-virus and spy-bots are up to date and then run some more scans.

you need to replace the cooling paste on the bottom of your processor,it costs £3.00 for a small tube, just unclip your processor and remove old paste and replace it with a very small amount of new paste.the amount of paste is not much bigger than a match head.hope this helps.

This is usually a problem to do with overheating. It was happening to mine when i started playing games, all i did to start with wa just open up the tower and stick a desk fan pointing into it. Its not very nice to look at but it works. Ive just hoovered it now too and im having no problems, im guessing it was a layer of dust around the part heating it up

1) Your Hard Drive/CPU/Video Card are Over Heating, and your computer is shutting off for SAFETY. Solution: More fans/Cooling of some sort

2) You are pushing too much hardware for the power supply you are using...I.e. you have a 300 watt PSU and you need a 350 or 400, depending on what hardware you are using. Solution: Get a bigger Power Supply

3) Something on the motherboard is shorting out, causing your computer to shut off. Solution: Check all connections and make sure nothing is touching the motherboard, that shouldnt be.

Let us know if you figure anything out. Good luck.

All you have to do is open ur tower up and get ur hoover and suck up all the dust and other bad stuff. It helps if u have a hoover with a brush attatchment.

I have two computers--one is twelve years old and never gives me any trouble, the second one is two years old and does everything wrong--It shuts itself off, it flashes up error messages and it freezes a lot.
This computer has win xp service pack three and is on a bench and the side covers are off and a fifteen inch house fan is cooling it all the time it is on---I think I will call ghost busters..

its is nearly always a hardware power/fan problem. The compenents need fresh air to cool the processer and graphics card down, if the fan is too light for the task, or if the pc is not well placed, ie on the ground or confined, the power unit will shut down for safety. get a bigger fan to start with

I have somewhat of the same problem, where at first it would be a couple hours then progressively less and less time until it would shut off after just a few minutes. I'm pretty sure it's not a virus because i erased everything on my newly bought hard drive and reinstalled windows xp. As far as i know that didn't work because it will still turn off. I don't think it's overheating either because the case on my computer is off, i've cleaned it almost every day for a week now because its off and it's still not working. I read somewhere else that i might not have enough power going into it but the new hard ware that i put in i installed months ago, and the problem just appeared recently. Right now i think it's either the fan or some piece of hardware went bad. Hopefully it's the fan.

i haveing that prob it getting no my neves computers shudent do this its wrong if you buy a computer u what it to work?

there might be alot of problems related to a computer turning on and off on its own. The most common is overheating. It is always suggested when u purchase a computer that you replace the fan it came with, with a better more powerfull fan. Please understand about business, companies do things on purpose to make sure that they continue to have a customer basis. They can make things to run all your life but if they do that then they would go out of business!

Another suggestion, if you have your computer plugged in to a voltage surge suppresor or in other words one of those plugs that has several outlets on it and has an on and off switch with a light on it. If you have had your surge suppresor for over a year or two you might need to replace it or just plug your computer directly to the wall it might solve the problem, how ever you run the risk of burning out some of your interior components due to surges in power! just buy a new suppresor!

Please stop placing your computers on the floor or enclose them in one of those computer desk compartments. They need ventilation so stuffing them in an enclosed environment doesnt help at all. Also placing them on the floor just guarrantees that ur gona get dust and debris in ur computer! that may also be the reason y ur computer is messing up.

If you have removed any of your computer components recently with your bare hands that might also be the problem. These are electrical parts and any acid or grease in your hands will be transferred to memory cards, chips etc. When you do this the oil transferred to these parts makes it easier for all the dust and debris to atatch itself to these components specially if your cpu is on the floor or close to the ground!

I have a medion and it gets worse and worse unitl its every 20 seconds and I nearly threw it out, I waited til it cooled down and re-installed factory software, it took me 20 tries to manage it, it kept crashing half way through, and it still kept crashing so I got my screwdriver and hoover out and CLEANED THE FAN!! its been fine for ages, I wish I'd done it months ago!!

i have the exact same problem. i have been told loads of B.S like a computers life expectancy is only 5 years n that (not true). mainly i have been told that its either something to do with the power supply or its a hardware failiure resulting into having to spend quite a lot of money. im having someone come out on friday to see what the problem is so i will let you know.

sounds like you have a virus or worm possibley a hardware problem.try this first goto control panel then display click on the screensaver then the power tab you should see turn off monitor, turn off harddrive, system standby, make sure the turn off monitor, and system stand by read (never)if this is set to this then could be a virus ect..if your antivirus and spybot detect nothing try another antispy (noadware) is a good choice and its free make sure you are uptodate with your antivirus updates as well as your system ect..hope this may help also download macafee stinger, detects worms and the more serious virus's
