what is eco-mode on my citroen c3?

I have a 2006 citroen c3 pluriel semi auto wont crank or start and faulty gearbox is coming up on display screen.Can anyone help me please.

the starter is located under far below the diesel filter between the firewall and the engine. if you have alot of time and patience you can take it out and fix it .with a socket , a couple of extensions and a ratchet you can loosen the bolts holding the starter through the wheel arch on the drivers side. from under the car you can loosen the wires connected to the starter.remove the solinoid and open it(it is a sealed unit). with a screwdriver you can wedge open the back plate and bend it back afterwards using a hammer. inside there are two copper plates that connect the power when turning the key. one always burns away and by replacing it with apiece of copper plate 3mm x 15mm x25mm with a10 mm hole in one side you can save alot of money

This saved me hours of battery charging and break down call outs.
C3 in Eco mode unable to lock doors or start car.
Followed Mick K advice above.
Disconnect battery Pos when ignition set on. Randomly press the central lock and speed limiter buttons on central column untill Eco mode suddenly went. Car started first time.
Eco mode what a stupid idea ?

I have been trying everything to get my car to start but ell it's saying is Eco mode tried everything. If I do get it to start will it be ok for an mot???any one knows how to get this shit off and 4 it to start.

c2 1.1 petrol will not start battery light flashingput jump leads on bumped it had battery checked checked connections. no voltage to fuse 15 with ignition on. left on charge, still no joy. left for 5 hours thought i would try it hey presto works. citreon helpful not!!!

eco mode does show up on occassions but not stopped the car.
not an expert but this has happened at least times once when lights were on without engine running then would not start left it for a time then it would start.maybe battery gets back to a level for eco mode to be happy

ive had a similar problem, left the interior light on for a while and eco mode and red battery light flashed, the battery was strong, as the horn and headlights were perfect, but the starter made no attempt to crank the engine.I had to put a small home charger on,but hardly half a amp would go in? (BATTERY GOOD) Started ok mins later.interesting idea about take of positive terminal then replace, i will do this next time if it happens again?

I have the c2 vtr with the pants gearbox i thought was the dogs when i bought it. I had the car a year when it started cutting out and the eco mode being shown, when the car cooled down it would start again so got it to the garage and aftre being off the road for almost 2 months citroen identified the problem as being a relay switch that moves the gearbox from auto to manual. No problems with it since however the starter motor has packed in and i dont have a clue were it is..... ANY HELP......

This is a stupid idea that an overpaid electronics design engineer at Sagem had during a very long tea break. He thought ''ll make an Eco Mode for the C3 to annoy the hell out of the Brits and then provide zero information about it" Seriously though
Youll might find when Eco Mode kicks in the car won't start up, very annoying. If you're working on the car checking through fuses like I was trying to find why the wipers wouldn't work for example. Try this.
Leave key in the Ignition at the standby position, just before starter motor position. Remove + battery lead using the quick release clip. Wait a few secs. Put + battery lead back on. Go inside car and its still stuck in eco mode according to radio display. Look just the the left of the steering column,on my C3 there are two buttons I never use, Central locking and a presettable Speed limiter alarm. These will be lit up by little yellow LED indicators (very noticeable in the dark when your'e stuck in Ecomode)
Operate the central locking button a couple of times and have a play with the speed limiter alarm button while your at it. Suddenly Eco Mode is cancelled and you can start the car up. WHY ? Don't ask me but it worked. I'm an electronics product support engineer so I have to get used to dealing with flawed designs.
