Volkswagen Golf Mk4 Central Locking Problems?

I had a problem with the lock not working on the driver's side front door - just replaced the locking mechanism with a working one from scrap yard for £30 and it was fine.

Apparently, the solders fade on these and it's a common problem.

The hardest part of this job was taking the door card off - the bolts are fine, but there are a few plastic pins which need to be pushed out manually by jamming them with a flat head screw driver.

My remote key doesnt seem to be working. it used to be that i oculd lock with the remote but not unlock and now it both. But when i unlock manually in the key hole from the drivers side it only opens drivers side. but i thought it has central locking. very confused.

hi i have a solution to alarm going off and in instrument cluster message displaying luggage compartment open. its normally a cause of water leak from rear washer, it directly drips on too of the boot sensor connector, try taking the connector out and cleaning the gunk, if doesn't help leave the connector disconnected, 100% alarm will work no message will display. thnx

i have 2 keys one with button that doesnt work so av been locking car manualy with key frm drivers side but wen i go 2 unlock it none of it unlocks feels like there is nothing in the lock,(no mechanism|)

im having problems with my central locking, if i lock the front passenger door all doors lock/open, however not the same using the drivers door! ive been messing around with the drivers lock and quite stupidly locked the mechanism.....any ideas how to open it!!

One of my daughters Mk 4 Golf rear doors is refusing to unlock, the pin stays down, won't open from inside or out. The other doors worked fine, but when the central locking on the other rear door started playing up I disconected it. Any ideas on how to get the stuck door open? I've removed the panel, I've cut away a part of the inner door skin to expose the lock a bit more, but still cannot free it, thanks,

Solutions to your problems:

Boot lockingproblems; screenwash(sloppy tubes) is leaking on your microswitch(inside the lock) or on the electric pump of the central locking system.

Remove the backpanel, 2 small screws hidden in de handles. Then just pull with a lot of force :)

Look at the small black/white electrical pump. if you see some oxidation replace it. Look at the lock, the wires run to the microswitch. Oxidation? Replace lock!

Check if the screenwashtube is leaking. If so, fix it, your new parts won't last a year if you dont.

Furtheron,

Problems with locks of the normal doors, strange alarm issues and interiorlights that stay on or won't come on at all. The microswitches in all Golflocks are all sloppy quality. Meassure their function with a multimeter, you can test is whilst using a screwdriver to simulate your doors being closed. Most of the times is will be the microswitch and you'll have to replace the lock. Or you can fix the microswitch, but I thinks that won't be easy.

It could also be some bad wires in one of the doors, but most of the times it is the microswitch.

central locking rear driverside door wont open nor does the electric window work anyone got any ideas on why not? cant even open the rear door, tried taking the panal off to be left with a metal plate??? now wot!!! all on a mk4 golf

The doors on the the golf are set that one press on the remote unlock button on the key fob opens only the drivers door and two presses opens all other doors. This can be reset by connecting a vag-com to the car via a lap top any vw dealer can do this but this does cost money.
