Yesterday late, I have done the ECU-test.
No window down, but the door-lock opens one click.
Opening the door was still not possible.
The handgrip on the outside of the door gives a minor/tiny click and I could see the interior-light got a little weak.
The switch was OK but no signal to the system.

This morning, starting the car gives a problem. The key needed some time to calibrate.
Then tadatada: the rear window got down by the switch.
And the locking was working also.
Then I could open the door on the normal way again.

One other option that I found, disconnect en connect the - (negative) of the battery, was not needed.

Hallo,
My Freelander has today te same problem.
On the Internet I found 2 options:
1e:
Hi mate, the window regulator has gone on mine as well, it's usually the cables that seize and snap. You will probably find the motor is still ok. So even though your window wont drop down like it should, you can still open the door, but just be careful. The window glass has a bit of flex in it so will bend a bit when you open the gate.
The door catch works independently from the window motor, so it should still work, can you hear the solenoid activating when you pull the handle, if so, then it's possible to open the door.
Try putting your rear wash/wipe on, if they dont work, there is a sensor in the regulator that can tell when the window is not fully closed and disables it.
I probably don't need to tell you a new one is about £300 fitted, so, if like mine , the door still opens and locks, then you get used to pushing the top of the window in slightly when you open and close the tailgate.
Hope this helps

Right... That rear door, window, etc... is controlled by the ECU. The rear door handle & button on the console got direct to the ECU from where it controls the window motor.
There is a self test diag mode which you can get into with a sequence of button presses & ign key turns. IIRC - It's:
* Turn ignition to position II.
* Press & hold fog lamp switch.
* Turn ignition off.
* Turn ignition to position II.
* Release fog lamp switch.
They say that you've got 4 seconds to complete this sequence but I've found
it to be more like 1 second!!!!
If done correctly, the car should beep, at which point, leave the ign on.
From there, press the CDL (central locking) switch and it will cycle through the various different things that the ECU controls. One of which will be the rear window.
When you get to the rear window test, it will drop the window, then the next time you press the CDL, it'll open the rear door. If the rear door unlocks without the rear window dropping, chances are, you've got a buggered motor!

Tomorrow by daylight I get on, trying to fix the problem.
