Corsa Engine Warning Light?

Hey.

My car had this engine warning light and when the light comes up the car seems to loser power but the light will not go off until i bring my foot up and let it slow down. It mianly comes on when im ether a going up a hill or b when i am accelerating. It has been to the garge twice now about it.

First time the got there computer hooked it up and found that the lamba senor was fault so they replaced. Took it for a spin still same problem.
Second time. Same fault checked wiring and found the wire had been burnt thr to the coil so they fixed that.Still same problem, they said it might be running rich and should take it for a long run but when this problem first started it was doing long runs back and forth 100+ miles a day.

At the moment im starting to lose it and dont no want to do next because i dont think the people where my car is going no wat they are doing.

i have had this exact problem (along with many others) with my company car (corsa 1.0 ecoflex).
It turned out to be a faulty coil pack and air flow meter. The faulty air flow meter made the revs fluctuate without touching the pedal and made it randomly cut out. The faulty coil packs made the car lose power, especially when puling away at junctions, and my engine management light came on when pushing to 60...when all was said and done it turned out that the spark plugs needed changing and that was making the coil pack work too hard which in turn made the coil pack go faulty...im up to 96,000 and on fourth timing chain, its had oil in the water header tank since 1,000 miles and had a full engine rebuild...

Hello all, i have a v reg corsa, run lovely then tap-its went. I had a problem with power and over heating, replaced idle control sensor, coil pack and spark plugs and seemed fine for a while, but now have a hot restart problem, seems it has to cool down to a certain temp and then will start again. Replaced the ECT sensor and that made no difference. Car also running jumpy now, feels shaky and getting really noisy, now sounds like the exhaust is blowing.. starts first time in the mornings, getting really fed up with it now. Any ideas?

I've just acquired a y registration Vauxhall corsa 1.2 auto, drove ok for two days but last night I just got Upto 70 and the car lost power and dropped to 60 felt like it changed gear.

I also noticed excessive revving through the gears I feared the gearbox but reading these posts tell me it maybe a sensor of sorts although there's no issues with start up but it is sluggish to move off but I put that down to age.

Oh yeah I'm totally retarded when it comes to cars so if anyone has an idea of what my cars issue is please post .

Thanks

Hi, Bought my son a vauxhall Corsa B W reg 65,000 miles 8 Months ago. Having same problem engine managment light illuminating at about 60mph lossing power drop speed light goes out then can get past 60mph, also runs slugish up hill again Light illuminating. Changed air intake sensor (£14) to carb ran a little better. Cleaned mass flow sensor. Still no joy. Disconected water temp sensor runs fine gets past 60mph no issues. I have ordered a new water temp sensor (£5.99)

has anyone checked connections from fuel tank or fuel pump or even connections into or from fuel filter if any of these are even slightly leaking then fuel will be lost but can also cause "some" of the problems you all list, can be drawing air into the system and giving false readings i.e. mixture too weak or lack of fuel making engine cut out, a lot of you mention pulling away problems and driving up hills makes car sluggish what if fuel simply isn't getting to front of car correctly??? all bells whistles and lights will show other faults but it could be something simpler blocked filter, failing pump, bad connection at any of these points. not 100% if any at fault but worth considering
hope another view is helpful and good luck with problems

I just bought an '04' corsa today. I had the same problems as everyone whos changed their air flow sensor. Had an 80 mile drive home. For the first 70 miles it would slow down on hills and not go over 60mph but kept driving and pushing the car and eventually something seemed to clear out. It now drives fine, and engine management light has gone off! So hey guys maybe these cars just need a good drive on the motorway once in a while :-)

you tried the exhaust ? or cat ? what to do ..drop the exhaust prior cat if it runs ok its one or other replace cat try it without full exhaust on if it runs ok chances are it could be baffle collapsed in exhaust i' had this problem on several cars from bmw's to pugs ..tip shake dat when off as with silencers they shouldnt rattle ? if they do clean em out this is not a fix as will effect emissions but the car will run ok but prob fail emission test but at least you can test to see if its one or the other .. goodlook..

I brought this to several mechanics, they could not figure out problem. I could not go over 50mph or go up hill or I would lose power. I checked the net and a person said that it might be an air mass flow meter. Finally a car mechanic tried this and it worked. Car if fantastic now!!!

that is the airflow meter if you got a custom airfilter then you need an induction pipe because the air flow meter cant handle the air intake from the airfilter

Same problem mines a 1.4 club 2007 only recently started showing engine management light, lack of power and a lot of juddering when in second gear especially. Any ideas as to what this may be? I can see this is a common fault and obviously not easy to diagnose.

I have a 1.0l w reg corsa B. I often have to use the accelerator to start the car and then in the first mile of driving the car will make a really loud humming noise as I accelerate and will slow right down to about 5mph or less, even in first gear, it rocks back and forth and then just before it clears itself it violently jerks before suddenly revving itself up. Sometimes stopping and restarting the car solves this problem, but not always,

I then have the problem of going up hills where the engine management light comes on and I have to go down the gears to just about make it to the top, and also when I am maintaining a speed of about 40/50 and trying to accelerate further(doesnt often drive much faster than this without the light popping on) the light will not go off until I have my foot off the accelerator for a while, not possible when going up a hill though!
And when the light comes on you can feel the car pull back and lose power.
It is ridiculous and extremely expensive.
I have changed:
Oil filters
Fuel filter
Idle control sensor x2!
Cleaned the hoses that can be got to.
I think thats all, maybe more, its hard to keep track!

I dont want to spend too much more but cannot afford a new car and surely wont get a lot for selling the corsa in this condition

Please can someone help me!

my corsa has the same problem but we had the crank sensor changed and still no joy the car was cutting out before we had this sorted. The car would cut out and would not start for about 5 to 10 min but the rev counter would not go up at all and the car would be sluggish but soon as you turn the enegine off and back on it would then kick in and work. like i said we had the crank sensor changed but of course light still comes on..........corsa there crap crap crap... and thought i was they only person with the problem

Hi, my wifes got a corsa 1995 14xe Automatic, It would i suspect run on 2 cylinders then pick up occasionally, untill it broke down completly. I managed to get the car home by pumping the thottle to coax it home. Used the paper clip test and got codes 43 and 47. So replaced EGR valve. took car out and all was well. untill about 10 miles into journey engine warning lit up but still ran fine. came home and got code 43 and 47 again. Went to breakers and got sec hand coil pack and fitted that. no warning lights took it out great for a few miles performance a marked improvement (or am I just wishing) egngine Man light back on and same codes as before. At this point I must mention that the light will go out and stay of i I switch the car off and on again, but will reapear after a few miles. Am i missing something obvious like having to reset the ECU ( I did leave battery off overnight but codes still present).

Hi, my EML came on Sunday morning after by partner filled my car up with petrol saturday evening. When driving it sunday it felt very slugish and was reluctent to move. Its only a 1 ltr but usuelly quite nippy when just driving to work but now it seems to take for ever just to get up to 30mph. I have just been and filled the car up again with petrol and it seems to be driving so much better the EML light is still on. Does anyone know if this could be cause dby puting diesel rather than petrol in the car or should this just make it cut out alltogether?

Any ideas would be appreciated as i am reluctent to take it to a garage with all the problems and no solutions posted on here.

Thansk a lot

wow - am so glad to hear loads of people have had the same problem as my corsa (1999) ive had the air flow and lambda changed every 6 months and wud temporarily fix the problem with the engine fault light...but recently they changed it and it comes on whenever i am slowing down going down a hill. i cant work it out but my answer is to get rid of the car! i will get rid of mine soon as ive spent so much money on trying to fix this problem!

I have the exact same problem with my corsa, thought it was only me though. It's a 1L, 11yrs old and only done 30,000 miles. Used to run like a dream until about a year ago when my engine management light kept coming on as the car lost power. It is also very sluggish when driving off from cold.

I have taken it to 2 different garages, spent around £300 and have had the coil replaced and then the oxygen valve, however no success. A few people on here have mentioned the air flow meter so might have a look at replacing this next. Will keep you all posted and let you know if it works. Personally i think Vauxhall should be giving us some answers, or at least doing something to fix the problem seeing as its a very common fault.

We had problem with loss of power also, going up hill and accelerlating from standstill. My father changed air flow/mass filter and not had this problem since. However about 6 months ago the dash board sprodically lost power then one day it would not start, no lights ect on the dash, dad gave dash a good smack and it started up no probs then until mechanic light came on, Garage threw off a fault to do with emissions, unfortunatelty we had told them about the dash some months earlier, cleaned connections and charged us £65 quid for the priveledge! We now have the emissions light on but are reluctant to get fault codes as nobody seems able to fix anyway! Come on vauxhall what is it with all these problems......

Car was ok for some years, its 1999 only 50000 miles from me mum and dad. I just spent £170 on a full service and it did not fix the problem which started about a month ago. I.E engine warning light, lack of power and almost broke down, 1.2 16v corsa club and can only get about 70 out of it or so until warning light or put foot down. Have a theory, either the garages have limited them or... personally I use V Power fuel, maybe our timings are not upto it?

i dont know either. my v reg corsa does the same going up hills in 3rd sort of pulls back and light comes on, u slow down go into 2nd and it goes off. it can be very bumpy when you start to drive the car after its been parked for a few hours and the bit i hate the most is at traffic lights or give ways, you put your foot down to go go go and it just doesnt move clutch is up, foot is to the floor and it sits there has a little think and starts to slowely pick up speed. very embarasing, and again the garage doesnt know what is mite be and it never does it for them when they take it for a test drive- typical! im sure they think im making it up. im even beginin to think its all in my head too.

The Crank sensor fails in corsa's all the time. I've replaced mine 3 times in last 2 years to get right of god knows how many faults.

1. Management light coming on when u slow down/Cutting out after driving then slowing down: The car will run fine for about 3 months if u jus restart engine when this happens, after about 3 months u will not be able to start it for 10 mins but then it will run fine. (if sluggish) £60 for a new sensor tho some quoted me 200...

2. Oil light coming on after driving then slowing down: Same problem as above, there is nothing wrong with the oil or the oil pressure the car is simply trying to cut out: This was caused by a mis-aligned Crank sensor.

3. Car wouldn't start in the morning, then other mornings it was perfect. Again crank sensor replaced and is working fine again.

Why these car's haven't been fixed at the dealer before they sell them is beyond me, this particular sensor is the cause of many issues if u search the net.

And if u haven't already, sell ur corsa before 60,000 as at this golden number the gear box "Links?" not sure what it's called (when u can't select certain gears) needs replacing, the oil pressure switch will blow every other month, the plug behind the dashboard will come loose (I've seen it, the housing for it is pathetic) and u loose all instrument panels and ofc the Crank sensor will fail many times. All common faults so the Vauxhall mechanic said...

Pedro

Sounds like the egr valve if it a diesel. Corsa heats the engine quickly by routing exhaust through this little device which then manages to get fouled up by dirty fuel or poor running. Need to clean or replace it.

Hey people, my sons (w reg 1.2 16v 65000 miles) corsa had the same problem, so i had an independant look at it, took him a while to figure out (couple of hours) turned out to be the airflow meter so he replaced it with a new one, problem was still there so he ordered another replacement but this time it was a more expensive Bosch and hey, problem gone, the mechanic is a friend of a friend so i know he was'nt bull$#%*ing me he actually demonstrated it in front of me with both parts, i'm not saying it'll work for everyone but it worked for my boy, also you can litterally replace yourself in five mins, hope this helps.

i mine has been doing the same for 2 months now and two garages don't know what they hell it is. I have a 2005 Sri 1.4 and on the dignostic it just says cylinders 1&4 backfire. They replaced and then put my parts back in because nothing has rectified the fault. I have had coil pack, injectors, ecu update, new ecu, air flow meter the list goes on. I think i am bound for the nightmare until i get someone to set it on fire and i claim on the insurance hahah

corsa sxi 2002 struggled to start! usually first time, when it did start the car with a spanner lit up so i turned off the engine and gave it 5 mins then tried again. Same light again but then it went off and the engine management light came on. was not at home at time an needed to get to work so drove it there was a loss of power and it would not rev higher than about 4900revs. spoke to a mechanic i work with,
he said i had fludded the engine, and it has gone into idle mode an it should go off and fix itself but it didnt.

Anyway after googling a bit i found out that if u put ur foot on the clutch and the brake and turn ur key it resets the fault.

and also if u put ur foot on the brake and press the milometer button then turn the key it removes the light.

P.S by turn the key i mean from not in to the engine running.

JUST HOPE its ok now

hi i serviced my vx corsa sxi 1.2 16v (oil, oil filter, sparks) last week and was running great and it always started first time straight away no hesitation even at -11, but this morning it took a lot of effort to start and the engine management light came on as well as a light (a pic of a car with a spanner through it) then as i pulled out of the drive on way to work the fuel warning light came on, usually it just stays lit but this time it was flashing i filled it up and the "spanner" light has went out the the engine management light still remains and now experiencing loss of power at high revs 4-5k rpm anyone got any ideas? someone suggested fuel filter change or perhaps cleaning air filter thanks

For the person with the grinding noise on the front left side - that's probably a stone caught in the disc brakes. As for the acceleration and cut out problems in low idling - these are very typical of the mass air flow meter having reached the end of it's fairly short shelf life.

I had all the same problems with my Corsa (2000, 1.2, 16v). Diagnostic came up with lambda chip, got it changed, no difference. Took it to a different garage, told them about losing power on acceleration and hills and without even testing was told it was the air flow meter. Mechanic said he had changed hundreds in Corsas. Fixed for about £130, no problems since.

I'd be interested to know if ANYONE managed to get their corsa sorted - it seems none of the answers were positive endings, just spending money and problem not sorted. I use my car a lot on long journeys and am worried, even though I spent £200 on a service and mot recently. I specifically told the mechanic about the light coming on and slowing down once it hits 70, esp on a slight hill and he scratched his head and said something about lamb sensor, but insisted that it wouldn't be that. He didn't have a clue. I will try resetting the light, but am still aware that there is some loss of power when the light comes on so not sure resetting will help. Any (cheap) ideas??

Damn Corsa's hey! Mine is doing it too and had this problem since I got it. Just randomly won't move then seems to be ok. I got told it was the electrics and lamda sensor issues but no garage has ever fully diagnosed and solved the problem. I spent £1500 when I first got it just to get it to drive because of this but still faulty now!

imz - The INSP light means that the car is due for a service. If you have already had the car serviced, the mechanic must not have reset the light. All you have to do is put your foot on the brake AND press the Trip Reset button on the dials then turn the ignition on (Not the engine, just the ignition so that all the dash lights come on). Hold the brake pedal and trip reset button for about 10 seconds then turn the ignition off. That should be it reset.

my god, i thought it ws only mine. I see a few people with the same problem, with mine i have to hold my foot on the accelartor to get it going then the management light comes on, then changing gear it slows down but then speeds up, then finally cuts out. Soon as i have re-started it it;s fine all day, till the next day starts the cycle all over again, been in the garage 3 times they don't know whats wrong, had the coil changed and still it's doing it today.
If any body know please help me i dare not drive the car now and can't really afford another.

I am having a similar problem but not with a lack of power.
my engine warning light seems to come on when i slow down at traffic lights/junctions and have to put it in first gear ready to pull off again. if i turn the engine off and start it up again, its fine.
also i have noticed a sort of grinding noise from the front drivers side wheel which i can feel through the pedals of the car.

Same thing happens to mine. Only a 1L engine. When i first drive off in the morning i have to go up a hill and the car barely moves. So i drive it down the hill first and around the block, then it seems to kick in and when i go up the hill its fine. Also when i go up any hills it slows right down, the engine warning light comes on and i sometimes have to put it in first gear. I've been told it may be something to do with the airflow system? Getting very annoyed with it now, very humiliating when im crawling up a hill in first gear in a 40mph zone :( anybody help?

Hi, I'm glad I'm not the only one with this problem!
Exactly the same problem, before I can pull of from cold, I have to put around 4000 rpm through the engine before it will pull off without being jumpy. Then accelerating uphill, the same thing happens.
The only thing is, last week mine started to show the engine warning light when I was stopped at traffic lights with no revs going through the engine, then it would go off once I put around 2000 rpm through the engine..
I've got a garage looking at it tomorrow so I'll post up what they find!

hey folks,
having the same problem exactly.
1.2 16v corsa b yr 2000
no power at all in first from cold start, then wen i push the engine at all on a hill for example the power drops and the engine mgt light comes on, wen i slow down its ok again, then wen i do about 60mph in 5th at abt 3k rpm the same thing happens. took it to a mechanic and he put new spark plugs in but that didnt really help so he thinks that its a problem with the coil pack or else the air flow meter. guna price them before gettin it fixed to see if im gunna be spending big bucks on a 9yr old car.. if i do n either wrk il drop uz a message..

Solved my problem today, could be your solution as well, went along to local motor factors and bought a new Air Mass Meter, cost £104, fit it yourself in 10 minutes, only need a couple of cable ties to replace the clips. Make sure the arrow on the new one points towards the throttle housing and disconnect the battery first. This fixed mine instantly!!!
PS the local vauxhall dealer said it was probably a burnt out valve and it would cost £400 to strip the engine down to look and the same amount to put it back together!!!

Hi, hope you get an answer to your problem, exact same thing is happening to my Corsa c 1.2 16v, also very bad to drive off from cold start, but if i stop after 50 yds and switch engine off and back on, it runs ok. Then when i accelerate in any gear to 3000 rpm the engine dies and engine management light comes on, then it will suddenly just pick up again. 2 garages cant sort it, one a vauxhall dealer.
