Rover 400 Clutch Slave Cylinder?

Looks like my Slave cylider has gone on my Rover 400. I have researched on the web and it says the whole system is cheap & nasty plastic. Cna I replace the Slave cylinder alone or do I have to change the whole lot?

hi if you have fluid leaking from the slave cylinder the easiest thing is change the cylinder and pipe assy. The push rod when connected to the clutch lever can be pushed with a lever the opposite way into the cylinder, it pushes the air bubbles and black brake fluid into the master cylinder reservoir. Suck half of this fluid out with a syringe and top up several times.
When pressing the clutch pedal, get an assitant to watch the slave cylinder, the brackets have been breaking causing loss of clutch travel. IF the bracket bends it will need welding and you need to take the bracket off.

hi, ive looked on the internet for a few days regarding the clutch as i have the same problem. it appears the clutch is a fully built in unit and unfortunately sounds like the whole thing has to replaced. unsure about the cost as some say its expensive and others disagree. probably would be better if u fixed it yourself but if it is cheap enough, get the garage on the case. let me know if u have any joy (leonchamberlain@msn.com)
