Ford Focus TDCi possible fuel pump probs?

I've bought ( for a bargain price I hope ) 2 of my works company cars. One is a 2004 Focus 1.8 TDCi ZETEC and the other is a 2000 Focus 1.8 TDi.

They both have huge mileage ( 250k ish ). The TDi one has had everything rebuilt or replaced ( head, turbo, injectors etc ) everything except the fuel pump.

The other one I'm not sure about.

They have both been diagnosed by Ford as having fuel pump issues. As far as I know they both have similar symptoms: They suddenly lose power andor cut out and sometimes start again after being switched off and sometimes they don't. The heater plug light on the dash also pulsesflashes.

Ford quote a grand or so to supply, fit and code a new pump for the TDCi one. I can buy a cheaper one second hand though and maybe get a local garage to code it ( I'm told there's one near by ). Does the TDi one run a similar fuel pump setup so thus talking similar money to fix?

I want to get them up and running as cheap as poss. obviously and am wondering if it's worth just chucking a new engine in the TDCi one as I can get a 30k miles one for about 500 squid plus fitting.

Any help/advice you can give me would be great as the whole thing is doing my head in!

have a ford focus 2002 1.8 tdci. Had a new fuel pump fitted a couple of months ago due to glow plugs on and engine kept cutting out and computer check said that. Today glow plugs started flashing, managed to get home. Left it a few hours and just tried it and it was really reluctant to start and plugs still flashing.

so people am i right in thinking that if i have a ford focus 1.8tdi with 42,000 on the clock that i can get my fuel pump problem fixed for free under the recall process ???? if ford made the car with this common problem then its down to them to fix it for free yes ???? my car dont even start no more after it pulling from the fuel supply being blocked or what ever it is, all it did was pulling like someone was tapping the brake peddal while i was driving now it wont even start HELP ME PLEASE

dont waste ure money on a new pump. take the engine you can get for £500.your better off with the engine thats done 30.000 miles.

This symptom is most likely the sensors on the accelerator pedal. If the three potentiometer sensors disagree, the computer drops the engine speed to idle, with glow plug light flashing, until switched off and on, then it may or may not be ok for a while.

Cost of new pedal, just over £50 a year or two ago. Time to change, maybe 5 minutes. (Just 3 small nuts and a plug.)

I HAVE HAD THE PROBLEM OF THE CUTOUT AND RESTART AND WOULD SAY THAT IT IS THE FUEL FILTER

my ford focus td1 has just had the same poblem was driving fine i stopped to get fuel it would not start again had it towed to garage showed up on machine fuel pump its a v reg with 130,000 it will cost 1600 to repair but found it hard to find a garage willing to do this nobody wants to know any answers

You might want to look into a recall for ford focus for fuel pumps even with hi milage .....
my sona focus had a bad fuel pump with 115000 miles and was still under warranty but would have to get car to dealer
towing would have been more than fuel pump costs with me putting it in so I got stuck with the job ....
