Suggested procedure to fit replacement seat motor - (the arm on the s/d motor I got through ebay seemed to be too long - I had to turn it in a vice to compress the bush at the inner end flat enough to fit the fixing bolts on the seat).
Ensuring you have the security code for any audio equipment, disconnect the car battery (to avoid the risk of triggering the seat air bags).

Slide the seat back and remove the 2 securing bolts.
Slide the seat forward and remove the plastic covers to the 4 rear bolts then remove the bolts.
Slide the seat forward then tilt it back at about 45%
Disconnect the cercip and spacer washer from the end of the motor arm.
With a flat screwdriver, carefully remove the motor up / down switch keeping its wires attached.
Insert a suitable Philips screwdriver through the switch hole and use it with a small hammer to drive out the cotter pin securing the motor.
Un-plug the motor from the wiring harness and remove.
Fit the replacement motor and bolt down the seat in reverse order.
The cotter pin has to be inserted in the same way as it was removed – tapped in through the switch hole –use a small screwdriver / piece of wire as a guide.
Re-connect the battery and re-code the audio equipment.

Hi, I recently had the same problem with drivers seat in my 2006 Reg Mondeo 2.0D Tdci 130 LX 5DR. I read about the problem with the plastic cog wheel, in this section, however, that was not the problem with my motorized seat. I undid the 6 seat mounting bolts, unclipped the electric connection plugs, turned the seat on it's side to get to and remove the seat belt attachment bolt, (which unfortunately, was a quite large headed security type bolt, so you might need one of them), then removed the seat completely out of the car. I found the problem to be that the traverse on the long metal worm drive had obviously gone to far on the uplift. Hence the motor was jammed and just buzzed initially on either up or down selection of the side switch. So I removed the scerated cir-clip by pulling it off with small inserted srcewdriver and back spacer washer, carefully from the metal anchor bracket on the end of the longish metal worm drive, which attaches over a spigot on the corner of the metal lever bar which operates the positioning of the seat. You can then pivot this long worm drive (cos the motor is hinged on a cotter pin) so as to be able to screw the metal anchor bar attached onto this metal worm, a couple or more turns, to get it into a position, short of it's maximum over-travel ( which ever way it may have gone faulty) Then manually and with a bit of force, slightly re-position the leverage bar which is fixed on the underside of the seat, to suit the new slightly modified position of the worm drive and attachment anchor bracket, so that the hole in it will then fit back over the protruding securing stud, so that you realign and re-fit the spacer washer and serated cir clip. Place the seat back into the car and re-attach the connecting electric plug, so that you can test the operation before you fix everything back into place. If it works, then lay the seat on it's side re-thread the seat belt end through the side of the seat and re-attach the seat belt to it's fixing bracket with the one securing bolt. DO MAKE SURE that you have correctly re-fixed this seat belt, securely in it's right position. Then just place the seat onto it's floor mountings and re-fix all 6 mounting bolts. (by the way for these mounting bolts you will find it easy to use both a small No 10 socket set and a 10 m m ring spanner) Again, make sure that the seat is securely bolted to the floor. If this was the nature of your probem, then make sure that you don't try and lift or drop the car seat too far in future!

Hello customers and owners from Ford Mondeo model 1997-2006. I know the problem with the electric seat adjustment. The gear on the drive is made of plastic so the teeth just strip off.
For that I have developed a gear of brass. With my solution you never have problems with the seat adjusment in future !

I have found that you can replace the plastic cog in the worm drive with a metal one obtained from ebay for £47. Just search for mondeo seat and scan down till you find it. Comes from Germany

Make sure if you buy one, that it has the long metal attachment with the plastic cogs in. Sounds like there's nothing wrong with the motor, just the cogs (which break or shear.)

The same thing happened to my one. Here's a pic of what I mean by the long bit:

Buy a second hand motor from the scrap yard or ebay. Silver motors are for mark 1 mondeo and black are for mark 2 mondeo. The motor and linkage are fixed by 2 clips which will leaver off with a screw driver. The seatbelt can be left attached to seat when you take seat out. Its a 30min job and easy to do. I have had 2 motors in six months. Plastic teeth on a cog keeps breaking.
