How can I fix my DVD system, Samsung HT-DB600 has 'PROTECTION' code?

I have a Samsung HT-DB600 Digital Home Theater System that is less than 2 years old. When I turn the unit on, the word 'PROTECTION' comes up on the display, and then the unit immediately shuts off. Any ideas on what is causing this or is it a pile of scrap?

Also take the cover off and check to see if there is a DVD pushed above the drawer by a 2 year old. Thats what happened with mine.

Hey Brother,

Just figured it out. If you call Samsung, they will tell you to take it to your nearest repair shop because you have a bad fan - and you may have a bad fan but here is one thing to try before you go pay for repair. Go to the back of the player and blow the dust out of the fan because the "Protection Mode" comes up when your fan doesn't come on. I went to the back of my player and just blew with my own wind and got a face full of dust - but to my surprise the DVD player came on and I've watched two movies!!! I hope this helps.

There is an inherent design fault in the power supply and it is not caused by low speaker impedance.
I don't think it is worth repairing for $150 plus shipping as there are more robust and better sounding HT system by Pansonic and Sony for about $200
Samsung products are no longer on my shopping lsit.

I tried all speakers line off, but still same problem.
You can try this.
First power off and push the "stop" botton more than 10 seconds at right side main player.
It will help. If you call to the customer servise, they ask $150.00 plus extra. I think this DVD full set will be about $200.00 now.
Good luck.

Good news! I found this while desperately searching for the reason my Sharp CD-BA2650 suddenly said "protect":

For some reason your receiver is detecting a very low impedance (probably less than 4 ohms) on 1 or more of the speaker outputs, and is going into "protect" mode to protect itself against damage. If you are certain that your speaker wiring is good end-to-end, then maybe one of your speakers is causing the problem. You can try disconnecting all the speakers, then attach one speaker at a time, turning up the volume to see which one is causing the problem.

This suggests a speaker or wire. I will replace my wire, and test the speakers with another unit. Cup your hand over the speaker (for small ones) and then move it away. If the sounds changes, the speaker may be bad.

If you need your discs out, you have to take the screws to the top lid off as the unit will power down and will not eject the tray.

Good luck.

Mine did the same thing. Called Samsung and for $150 flat service fee and you pay shipping to their service center ... you can turn your paperweight into a working machine again.

They made mention of things like unit will catch on fire if you keep power cycling it. Sounds like a design problem but Samsung does not consider this a "recall" item.

Oh well ... save your money and your sanity.
