Peugeot 306 heater blower problem?

Hi,

I bought a cheap peugeot 306 and the heater blower is not working.
However the blower motor itself works fine (I dissasembled it directly to the battery to test it). Fuses F5 and F21 that are related are OK too.

From some research over the internet people report the following possible faults:

1. The blower relay
Which one is this? I do not have a diagram of the relays only fuses.

2. The resistors located under the windshield
I took the resistors out and they seem OK to me (nothing broken) and i cleaned the electrode surfaces to be sure. How can I be sure that they are realy OK?

3. The switch (?)
Whitch switch is this? Is it the 4 spead rheostat on the middle console? How can I test it?

4. The ignition switch
Anyone has any ideas how to test or fix this?

If anyone knows an answer to one of the questions please help.

I have a Peugeot 306 lx 1999 and my heating stopped working today. I need to change the heater resistor but i cant find it. Can anyone tell me where it is and what it looks like? Thanls

Mine is stuck on all the time... Start the car, and the heater fan just comes on full, and can't be switched off.... Any ideas please?

Same problem green relays kept blowing spoke to a mechanic I know he said its a wire earthing out behind the clocks removed them and there it was. Repaired it and things fine BUT IF YOU CONTINUE TO CHANGE THE RELAYS EVENTUALLY IT WILL BURN THE LOOM OUT SO CHECK IT OUT

Help! Have had the blower on my 306 S reg fixed 3 times now and it's gone again! Would like someone who knows about it to fix it please! Willing to pay as I don't want to be without it in the winter. I live in Hemel Hempstead. Have been told if I take it to a main dealer it could cost upwards of £1000 and a) can't afford it b) wouldn't pay that to fix a heater even if I could, lol! Can anyone help?

My blower fan stopped working. Fuses & relays were all ok. Mine is an airconditioned cabriolet.
After pulling out the dash, checking wiring & connections - the problem was simply that some fine twigs had gone under the scuttle cover, got into the system & were stopping the fan from turning.(I should have realised this when I could feel that the fan motor was warm!).

I had the same problem. Fuses were all ok. But no power at the blower motor. Peter's suggestion above about kicking the footwell a few times actually worked! The blower jumped to life. Interesting way to help diagnose the problem. Felt like an old school black and white TV. Made me laugh. Thanks Peter!

the blower I have has three wires connected, one (red )is a switched 12V from the ignition cct via the blower relay and fuses 21 and 5. one wire ( black ) is the negative supply. and the other comes from the fan selector on the dash, this supplies between 1.5 and 4.8 volts to the motor, it activates some power transistors in an encapsulated heatsink.
my transistors have apoparently blown , as i get the variable voltage at the plug, but it doesnt work, though if i reverse the black and red wires it will spin in reverse, so the moor is ok. I have ordered a replacement motor off ebay for £30, and made a temporary fix by removing the thin wire from the switch from the cct, shorting the connector for this wire to the positive feed into the motor, and fitting a switch to interupt the positve feed. this gives me the option to switch on the motor( full blast only ) and will do untill the new motor arrives.

hi all, I too seem to be having motor blower trouble. The main question on my mind is what it the pipe running in to the bottom of the motor. Is this easy to take off or is it part of the the air con system and does require a draining of the air con 1st if so before removal. As i was told this is a useless pipe.

i had same problem, checked the green relays, 1 was burnt out, swap them round, replace which ones dont work

just updating my last answer. the fan stopped again after a couple of days, so I rang peugeot dealer for a resistor, but as mine has got air con it is part of the motor, so I'd have to buy the motor as well £196 plus VAT. I got one from the scrap yard £15, its OK now.I have read the ones without air con, the resistor is separate under the wiper arms

Mine worked intermittently then stopped altogether, checked relay, then checked supply to blower, you don't have to take the glove box off just unclip the plastic cover under the passenger foot-well its a bit tricky to see laying on your back with a torch, put a multimeter or test lamp on the red and black wires turn on ignition it it was fine, I thought it must be the motor so I unscrewed the 4 torque screws and twisted and lowered it, I put 12v supply to the motor and it worked, so when I I plugged it back in the car it worked, I tightened up the connections in the plug and seems to be OK now

Hello!

I know it's a long time ago, but I have just had the same problem, as described above. I've checked all of the bullets, but neither of the, helped me out.

In my case, one of the green relays, placed under the steering wheel, was burned off - I replaced the one and my heat blower is again functioning.

All the green relays are the same model, so to check these, you can replace them with one-antoher.

our blower burnt out and has burnt out the circuit board for the indicators etc. any cheaper ways to fix it?

The heater shoulden't be blowing, but hot air will vent through into the car as you drive as it passes through the heater matrix.

Hi just got a 306 M reg the other day every thing was working fine, till tonight on my way home from work the heater packed in.

The rear de-mister working is working and there seem to be no other faults.

Getting no power at all,

Hi,

On my peugeot 406 (1998 with aircon) I had a heater blower motor that went faulty and stayed on full power all the time.

The motor was in the left hand footwell behind a carpet screen (screen held in place by plastic rivets which pop out). The motor is held in place by three screws. I removed it and stripped it down to find a large, aluminium heatsink with two large transistors (marked FW26025A1) fixed to it and an associated circuit board.

One of the transistors was faulty so I replaced both with an equivalent (MJ11015 - total cost £11.42 inc P&P from www.rswww.com). This fixed the problem.

You need to drill out 4 rivets holding the transistors and desolder them so it's not a DIY repair unless you are OK soldering circuit boards. However a TV or HI FI repair shop should be able to do the repair for a modest fee if you supply the transistors.

Another common fault with these blowers is they stop working completely. Usually this is not the blower but the rectangular connector block which plugs into the blower and powers it. Often with this fault you can kick the passenger footwell and the motor jumps into life for a short time!

You need a small pair of long nose pliers to squeeze tighter the individual female spade connectors within the connector block. Once they are a snug fit on the blower all should work once again.

I HAVE A W REG PEUGEOT 306 WHICH GIVES OUT HEAT ALL THE TIME EVEN IF BLOWER SWITCHED OFF. ANY IDEAS?
