How can I fix the speedometer of my Peugeot 206?

My husband changed the stereo in my car without disconnecting the battery now my speedometer rev counter are not working has he blown a fuse ?

I wish i knew! My car went flat a. Few times, friends think its the starter motor, they hit it a few times with a hammer (apparently its a temperately fix) that worked but ever since my speedo doesn't move and when it does it get stuck on 50 or works fine. Dads had a look but we have no idea what were looking at. Can someone please help!

My speedo didn't work at 10mph it meant I was doing 30mph,

My sexy partner had a look and took off the dashboard the glass screen and the turned the pointer around clockwise until it stopped then pushed it a little further to let the needle go back and let it rest at zero, the test run the car on twat nav on speed and hey presto it was working,
To stop the needle from moving back we superglue a plastic peg in its zero position so that the speedo needle rested on it, job done...

Try www.cartronix.co.uk they fixed my instrument cluster on my Peugeot 206 whilst i waited for only £80, they did offer a postal service but as i only live about 20 minutes away i took my car to them and was fixed in 20 minutes. Excellent Service.

iv had the same problem i changed the speedo scenser which is at the back of engine on the gearbox you wont see it but put your hand down below the 2 water pipes and feel around untill you find a plug with 2 wires remove the plug and feel againe untill you can feel the screw which is a star drive undo screw then twist the scencer and lift it out but be care full because the gearbox oil will come out all over the floor so try to catch it in somthing. my scencer cost me £32 from german swiss and france . gsf

Solved it !
The intermitent speedo 10mph then 20mph offset problem is failrly easy to fix. The cause would appear to be purely mechanical..... the pointer when allowed to 'vibrate' freely at or below 0mph seems to throw the calibration out. I removed the dash surround and perspex front to the speedo and rev display. By fixing a fine pin (upside down with the sharp end cut off to about 6mm) with superglue at the zero point; this acts as a 'zero' stop. Then just recalibrate the needle (I used my SatNav) over the speed range. It has worked for me without any correction for the last 6 months!

Hi,
Recently i bought pegeot206 cc, 2004 model car. My battery went doen. I checked in mechanic shop and advice me to change the batter. Before changing the batterry i started vechile using another vechile bettery.

Now my speedometer is showing opposite direction..starting from 200 or 190 and beep sound is keep on coming while driving if vechile is not moving there is no sound..it's really irritating me to drive. how to fix. please can anyone help me!!!!

Speedo problem is caused very often by mechanical failure inside the speedo clock stepper motor. Replacing the upper half of the speedo stepper case repairs the speedo.

Hi, I have a 2001 206, the speedo was consistantly 10mph below the actual speed of the car throughout the whole speed range. 6 months ago the speedo did a wobbly and the offset was 20 then 30 mph then anything. Had the dash and sensor stripped back and rebuilt, and magically OK......... for about 2 months, then it reverted back to 10mph below again. After another 2 months it is now at 20mph below road speed and has been like it for a month!! Any ideas anyone?

speedo drive sensor is on the off side driveshaft gearbox housing and is held in by an allen key bolt you can get to it from the back of the engine take off the air pipe on inlet manifold to air filter then you can just about see it about 18 inches down.

iv got a peugoet 206 change the speed senser on the gear box and the speedo two. still not working any ideas!!!!!!

go to a good breakers yard and get a replacement diffrerant connections on the back so take your clocks of and bring them in to get the right one this is a common problem on the 206 should cost about 40-60 pounds max for set of clocks

Önskar att jag visste, vilket jag också har samma problem (bara Speedo slutat fungera). Resten (varvräknare, kilometer, bränsle gage, värme gage och olja gage) fungerar perfekt. Looks like it is a common problem in the 206's. Ser ut som det är ett vanligt problem i 206-talet. A Peugeot dealer quoted me R14 000,00(rediculous!!). En Peugeot återförsäljare citerade mig R14 000,00 (rediculous!!). Can anyone help? Kan någon hjälpa?

Mariusz, can you tell where i can find the stepper motor. I am having the same problem and the garage requested that i replace the whole unit even though the other gauge are working fine!! Is there any part number for this stepper motor?

it is not the sensor but stepper motor inside the instrument cluster.Typical fault of Citroen/Peugeot cars. Dealer garages are happy to offer you a new cluster for £300-£400 instead of replacing a little motor which can be unclipped inside the cluster very easily. You only have to find such a motor which shouldnt cost more than £20.

can anyone advice me on how to fit back in place the dash speedometer console, I bought the the peugeot 206 WReg a week ago and as I was giving the interior a clean I noticed the the dash speedometer console moved to the inside about 1cm and wiggling left and right..... can anyone tell me what caused to do so and how to fix it back to place please.

I have exactly the same problem - garage replaced the sensor for £80 plus VAT but didn't fix it so Peugeot have suggested replacing the whole unit for £300. Everything else works fine though and garage have suggested it might just be the wiring but getting to that is time consuming so costly

I had same problem, bought a new instrument cluster from ebay for 30 pounds, fixed the problem, only problem is it doesn't show the mileage anymore.

Last but not least possibly Ecu (if so you are looking at big dosh to have the Ecu resolved). If the speedo itself is found to be faulty you are looking at around £290 from a peugeot dealer to have it replaced. I have 2 for sale if you get stuck
