Renault Megane Automatic Transmission error code download?

Automatic transmission is not smooth and shifts with a loud thud / surge followed by Check gear box indicaton / Service indicaton . Both the indications disappears after switching off and starting the car. Is the on board computer error code volatile once engine is switched off? Or is error code accesible for download even after switching off & then on? If so, how long can one drive the car after getting the error code before erasing the error code from the onboard computer memory.
Error code DF049 PRESSURE REGULATION - MEASURED PRESSURE LESS THAN REALIZED PRESSURE.
Changing the transmission oil did not make any difference.
What is the problem? Defective Pressure Regulator? Sensor? Distribution Belt? How to fix?

To all you reno owners out there with an AL4/dpo,I have a modus 05 with 50,000 on the clock ,these units suffer from solinoid valve problems ,along with people putting in the wrong fluid Only use FULLY SYNTHETIC
Because they suffer from cooling problems ,the hand book refers to
Spending to long in traffic /to long on the motorway /pulling to heavy loads, they go on to sat that you should put a themostat in that has a lower value, all of this points to overheating the fluid the condition sensor then flags it up to the computer,

If you replace the 2 regulator valves with the Borg warner ones you will have to upgrade the software otherwise your back to square 1

Renault will tell you the fluid will last the life time of the car with a top up now and again ,every other mfg will tell you to change the fluid every 30,000 m .

Some Renault transmission's do not have a drain plug they only have a level plug ,if you do not change the fluid you will be pumping
Debris from the friction material from the clutches and steels around the system this can damage valve body components o rings, bearings, bushings, solinoids valves.

The best solution is to clean control and solenoid block. Drain auto transmission fluid completely and fill new fluid. Drive vehicle for one week and replace the fluid another time. The problem will be rectified.

You need to replace the EVM solenoid valve on the valve body. Then make sure the valvebody is clean and that you replace the gearoil with dextron III oil. Also you need to have the software checked and if this is still the old software, you need to get it loaded else it will just come back and burn the solenoid valve again

My 2002 1.6 Scenic auto has this problem. It will not shift up, and then recently shifts with a loud thump. It goes days / weeks ok, but it is getting more frequent so time for a fix. I have always had Autos, Honda, Vauxhall, Ford and usually its the oil. I was amazed that you need to plug a computer in to change the oil!! Checking online this dosent seem to be the fix. I took mine to an Auto specialist who has the Renault Clip diagnostic computer (near A1, beds). £25 for a diagnostic - some report about oil pressure not corrcet for shift. They have suggested a strip down and reapir - suggets its going to be any where up to £1,200 for a new box, but could be much less, they can't tell untill its out and on the bench. will let you know what happens next - Mick

My girlfriend's car (1999 Scenic Alize) has a similar problem. When cold, at around 40mph, it will suddenly shift down roughly and the warning light comes on. Stopping the engine and restarting clears the warning light. Once it's warmed up, it's fine. The local Renault dealer didn't seem to have any answer.

I have a 54 reg megane and its only done 16,000 miles and its jumping gears but it only does it once a day
1 person said it needs the oil and filter changing in the gear box and another 1 said it wants the valve block changing for the pressure regulator.(£500 just for the part!!)
Bit stuck where to go with this now.......Any idea's

If the gearbox is working, and changing up smoothly, there shouldn't really be a fault.
You need to take it to a Renault service centre to diagnose it properly,as it could be something simple.
The auto box oil level is also very critical, and it has to be exactly right.
It's normally never changed, being filled for life.
My previous Citroen was also plagued by a warning light coming up every few months on the computer, and there apparently wasn't a problem, but it cost £30 to get reset.
My son's Vectra has the same intemittent problem, but he just ignores it,as the car is otherwise fine, after 130,000 miles!

Further to my recent reply, since I had the sensor changed in the Autobox,it's been fine.
It's a better box than the Sensodrive gearbox I had in my previous Citroen C3.
It's much better when overtaking, the C3 seem to "hesitate" before kicking in,which could be very off putting when trying to overtake something big on the motorway, and fast traffic coming up behind!
There's plenty of response with the Renault,so it feels a lot safer at times when you need quick acceleration.
It's a pity the Renault isn't a 5 speed box,as the engine gets a bit noisy if you do over 80 or so on the motorway, below that it seems fine.
My Citroen 1.4 hdi seemed quieter at higher speeds
How do other owners rate the 1.5 DCI engine?

It's not worth trying to fix an auto gearbox problem yourself,it needs a proper diagnostic check on a Renault dealer's computer.
Once the problem is isolated, any repair undertaken by Renault is guaranteed for 12 months anyway,so if it doesn't fix the problem, take it back until it's right.
Renault auto gearboxes should not "jump",and should change up smoothly, and up to 4th at about 2,700 rpm.

Was having similar issue with a 1996 Renault Megane, engline K7M. OBD code gave 189, 187, and 186 as "A/T solenoid" problems. Sounds like corrosion on where they meet.

You need to take it to a renault dealer, who will diagnose the fault.
In my case(I have a 55 Megane 1.5 Dci Sport Tourer),sometimes it wouldn't change up from 3rd to 4th.
A gearbox sensor was at fault, and if your car is less than 4 years old,Renault will pay 50% of repair costs,as the gearbox has an extended part-warranty on it.
My "error-service" light also came on,but now the gearbox seems fine.
It cost me a £100 to get it fixed,(luckily it was still on a used car warranty, which reimbursed me!!)

I have the same problem. It seems to be generic for all Renault automatic gears. I have made only about 20,000 miles when this started occurring. The fluid change helped a little. The fault re-occurred on third or fourth day after the change. I am not going to try odds with this car and wait until I have to replace the whole gearbox. I am not sure that this will help as well. I'll get rid of this car as soon as I can. The Japanese makes look like the best choice for those who don't want to spend too much of their time on rectifying manufacturer's poor job.

I have a similar problem with my scenic 2000. Error code in my case was G04 Regulazione pressione olio (Oil pressure regulation). Took it to two different Renault dealers. One of them said it is the Transmission electronic pack (I am not sure what it is). The other said that it can be that but it can also be the governor.

I haven't decided yet what to do. I am thinking to try replacing the governor first as it is much less expensive than the other. I will write again once i have done it to tell if it worked.

Hi there

I have just bought a used Renault Megane Scenic - after approximately 10 miles the Auto (WHITE INDICATOR) light came on - on switching off the engine and then re-starting, the Auto light disappeared.

I referred to the Handbook and it says refer to Renault dealer immediately for attention - one source of the problem can be a faulty solenoid in the automatic gearbox. I GATHER THIS IS QUITE A COMMON PROBLEM. However after replacing the solenoid and refilling with new fluid, I have now had a recurrence of the problem.

I can recall a Vauxhall Main Dealer telling me to ignore an EMS warning light several years ago as this was then a common problem. I was assured that the car was OK and that the warning light on a Vectra SRi was temperamental. The car was fine despite the red warning light !!!!!

Who can we believe in this world ?
