Fuel Filter Change Renault Clio 1.2 16v 02 reg?

After removing the rear seat, then plastic cover, then eventually the plastic screw down lid (hammer and blunt screwdriver) then removing the pump from out of the tank to find that yes, there is a filter but NOT the filter I had brought.
Word of warning once you try and replace the pump into the tank be aware that this will cause the petrol to come out the top of the tank!!!!!
May be better to not try this operation until you have no more than half a tank of fuel (not a full tank as I found out).

I will have attempt number 2 next weekend by seeing if it is located behind drivers wheel!!!

the fuel filter is placed with the sender unit.take it out useing a flat head,while takein care of damage to the clips.if the pump is in good workin order there is no need to change pump.just give the filter a good clean.useing injector cleaner after every oil change helps keep the whole fuel system clean and clog free.

The fuel filter on your clio I.2 16 valve is a mesh unit inbuilt to the fuel pump sender unit, emersed in the fuel tank.
To clean the mesh you have to remove the back seat ,driver side, unclip the black plastic circular cover.
Remove the electric multi plug conector,Disconect the fuel line. Then note which way the pump arrows are lined up with the car body arrow.
Remove the plastic serated ring holding the pump in place.
Then remove the pump at an angle to clear the fuel float.
Once the pump is removed from the vehicle you will see three clips holding the base of the unit on,
prise these open with a flat edged screwdriver carefully ,then lift the base away from the pump...
Eureca!!!! one mesh filter... fcuking crazy design..
contaminated fuel cloggs the fine mesh and the clio runs like s**t!!!

renault dont even no about ther own cars alll u have to do is change the filters and get a general service every what, ones a year

some renault clios appear to be wrongly detailed on the computers at your local car factors, my clio has its filter built in to the pump and according to my local Renault dealership, it does not need changing, (WRONG).

i thought the fuel filter was an intake one but actually its not. if you follow the fuel lines you will find it located just behind and under the off side ( right ) headlight, to get access you take the offside front wheel off and then the plastic guards and you will see it.

Found the answer, the Petrol fuel filter is located inside the petrol tank on this model, and is changed at 120,000 miles. It involves changing the complete sender unit / pump!!! Acording to a Renault service department.
