How to fix immobilised Nissan 200sx?

My son has a great car , but engine immobilized cos a fault to fob or NATS system ( not sure which ) has left car not starting. No one seems to be able to help, in fact he was told by one helpful mechanic to scrap the car. Please has anyone got any ideas of info.

This is usually due to the key fob rather than the main unit being faulty.

Assuming this is the case you can fix in one of 2 ways.

If you still have the fob which was working with the car it will retain the last code setting so will not need re-programming. You can send it to the people at this web site and they will recondition it for you and return
(VERY good service they completely refurbish mine including new switches and case and returned immediately - turn round time from my posting it too them was about three days! highly recommended (about £35). You can then resync
the car by unlocking with the key (but not opening the door) and pressing the lock button a four or so times standing next to the car.

ALternatively buy a fob off e-bay for a few quid. This will need to be re-programmed here's 3 "how to do it" guides i got off the net (but havn't tried yet) - as they both say the same thing I assume they work. Good luck!

Guide 1.

I recently had to replace my remote, but I was unable to find anywhere on the Web the instructions for registering the remote unit with the car's computer. I eventually obtained the following instructions from an Infiniti Dealer and I have posted them below.

1.Get in & lock the doors
2.Insert the key into the ignition 6 times within 15 seconds
3.Hazard lights should flash
4.Put key back into the ignition & turn to Accessory
5.Press the master door lock (on drivers door arm rest) unlock/lock
6.Hit the lock button on the remote
7.Hazards should flash
8.Pull key out and open the drivers door and then close it
9.It should be set

These instructions worked perfectly for me. If you have more than one remote, I believe that you repeat step 6 for each remote before performing step 8. However, I have not tried registering more than one remote.

Guide 2.

programing a Nissan remote , is hidden secret by Nissan Dealers. As a Nissan Technician i will share it.

Just get in your vech , close all doors. Using your power lock switch , lock all doors.
After doors are locked take your Ignition Key and insert it and remove it from ignition switch in a slow fashion , but consitant pace. (97 and earlyer are fast) When you see the hazzard lights flash, put key in ignition switch and turn to the On postion .. Do NOT CRANK or you will have to Start over ..
After in the On postion .. Hit the Lock button on remote... Hazzard lights should flash..( note..you have to reprogram all remotes when adding a new one , if you don't your old remotes will not work )
If your doing just the one , turn igntion switch off and unlock door and get out and try it.
If you are doing more than one. While still in Vech with Key on .
After you hit the Lock button on Remote and hazzard light flashed .. with key still on .. use master lock switch unlock doors and relock and then hit Second Remote, Lights should flash again ,
repeat if adding a 3rd remote..
after done just turn key off and unlock door and get out and try. Good Luck :)

Guide 3

The horn chirp can be disable by pressing the lock and unlock buttons simultaneously until the hazard lights flash, and no enable press the lock and unlock until the horn chirp.
To reprogram (enter new ID) key fob (keyless remote controller) follow the steps.
1. Close all doors and lock all doors
2. Insert and remove the key from the ignition key cylinder more than six times within 10 seconds.
(The hazard warning lamp will then flash.)
NOTE:
Key should be withdrawn from ignition key cylinder completely each time.
NOTE:
Do not rush the insertion/removal key cycling process. The side
marker/tail/license lamps and interior illumination will flash twice when this step is
accurately completed.
3. Insert key on ignition key cylinder and turn ignition key switch to "AAC" position
At this time, the new ID code is entered and original (previous) ID codes are erase.
4. Press any button on the new remote controller once. (The hazard warning lamp will then flash)
NOTE:
Do not press the button more than one time in the above step. If the button
is pressed more than one time, the programming procedure will not be successful.
The side marker/tail/license lamps and interior illumination will flash twice when this
step is accurately completed and programming is successful.
If there is only one remote controller skip step 5.
5. Additional ID code entry
Release the door lock, then lock again with door lock/unlock switch
(In power window main switch)
6. Remove key from ignition
7. Unlock driver side door, open driver side door and then close the door. (END)
NOTE:
If you need to activate more than two additional new remote controllers, repeat
the procedure on step 5 "Additional ID code entry" for each new remote controller.
NOTE:
Entry of maximum four ID codes is allowed and any attempt to enter more will be ignore.

nissan have just told me that they cannot replace the alarm either as the NATS alarm is no longer available as a part that a dealer can order. So if its broke, then its always going to be!

I'd be interested to know if anyone has replaced their NATS alarm and if so what with.
